About the role
The Safety Manager ensures the safe operation of all safety systems, with a focus on electrical systems. This role involves developing and implementing safety policies, conducting risk assessments, providing training, and promoting a positive safety culture to mitigate hazards and comply with regulations.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement safety policies and procedures.
- Conduct risk assessments and hazard identification, particularly for electrical systems and equipment.
- Eliminate or control at-risk behaviors or conditions that may lead to injury or property damage.
- Investigate incidents involving injury or property damage, determine root causes, and develop corrective actions.
- Coordinate site safety inspections for compliance with OSHA regulations and company policies.
- Train and educate employees and supervisors on OSHA requirements and company safety policies.
- Travel throughout assigned territory to inspect and verify compliance with OSHA regulations and company policies.
- Maintain accurate incident records and prepare reports for regulatory authorities.
- Ensure compliance with electrical safety regulations, codes, and standards (e.g., NEC, OSHA).
- Stay updated with changes in safety regulations and implement necessary adjustments.
- Perform routine audits to assess safety conditions in construction, service, and data departments.
- Identify non-compliance issues, safety deficiencies, and areas for improvement.
- Promote a strong safety culture and engage employees at all levels in safety initiatives.
- Recognize and reward individuals and teams for their commitment to safety.
- Develop, implement, and review safety programs, policies, and procedures.
- Analyze safety metrics and trends to identify patterns and recommend improvements.
- Implement behavior-based safety (BBS) strategies to promote proactive hazard identification and peer accountability.
- Utilize digital safety management systems for inspections, incident reporting, training records, and compliance tracking.
- Oversee administration for fleet services and assigned company equipment.
- Monitor industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices related to safety.
- Deliver safety training programs for employees, contractors, and relevant personnel, with an emphasis on electrical hazards.
- Interact and communicate professionally with all levels of management.
- Ensure PTPs (Pre-Task Plans) are performed in accordance with company policy.
- Ensure all required paperwork, inspections, audits, and TBTs (Toolbox Talks) are distributed to the local safety team in a timely manner.
- Support Safety Coordinators and Site Safety Representatives as needed.
Requirements
- 5-10 years of proven experience in electrical safety or safety management, preferably in commercial or industrial environments.
- Associate’s Degree in occupational safety, construction management, or a related field preferred.
- Relevant certifications (e.g., Certified Electrical Safety Compliance Professional - CESCP, Construction Health and Safety Technician - CHST).
- Journeyman’s Electrical License (ideal).
- Must be able to pass a background check.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license.
- OSHA 500 certification required.
- Proficiency in incident reporting and documentation.
Reports to the Director of Safety and Risk.
