About the Role
Responsible for implementing, administering, and monitoring all IES safety policies, procedures, and programs for assigned geographical regions, departments, and projects. Ensures compliance with IES, customer, federal, and state safety standards. Develops and manages safety/health initiatives to prevent and eliminate occupational incidents, injuries, and illnesses. Performs and instructs in proactive hazard analysis and incident evaluation techniques.
Responsibilities
- Fully support and ensure compliance with IES and customer safety policies, procedures, programs, and federal/state standards.
- Provide guidance for operations in developing action plans for branches, offices, or projects not meeting safety goals.
- Perform and develop safety presentations and training as required.
- Schedule and coordinate safety audits/inspections to verify compliance with IES, customer, and regulatory standards.
- Conduct or direct hazard identification activities and develop safety action plans to correct non-compliance issues.
- Develop processes to reduce or eliminate hazards and safety incidents.
- Deliver and coordinate safety training for management on accident prevention and compliance.
- Prepare written reports and summaries of safety audits, investigations, and issues.
- Conduct root cause investigations on recordable incidents, near misses, and vehicle incidents; implement corrective actions.
- Establish communication channels (committees, calls, video conferences) within the region.
- Notify Director of Safety and DSM of any OSHA inspections; provide guidance or attend as feasible.
- Prepare and maintain safety records and reports, including OSHA 300 logs and incident data.
- Teach, counsel, and mentor stakeholders to uphold IES Safety Culture.
- Participate in hiring and managing site safety coordinators and managers.
- Participate in claims reviews for regional and divisional claims as needed.
- Travel as required for business needs.
- Perform other responsibilities as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Health & Safety (preferred) or High School diploma/GED equivalency with relevant experience.
- Minimum of seven (7) years’ experience in construction safety, preferably in telecommunications or electrical industry.
- CHST (Construction Health/Safety Technician) certification or equivalent BCSP certification (e.g., CSMC).
- OSHA 510/500 and OSHA 30 certifications; current status as an Authorized OSHA OTI 500 Construction Outreach Trainer.
- First Aid and CPR certified.
- Knowledge of OSHA 29 CFR 1926 Safety and Health Regulations for Construction and Confined Space Entry Standards 1926.1200 Subpart AA.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office 365 (Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to present and train effectively.
- Strong customer relations and organizational skills; detail-oriented.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks/projects simultaneously and respond to safety emergencies with or without advance notice.
- Must meet Company minimum driving standards.
Physical and Mental Requirements
- Self-motivated, professional, and positive in approach; ability to lead process improvements.
- Proven problem-solving and critical thinking skills; ability to read, write, and deliver oral presentations.
- Ability to travel within branch/regional territory as needed.
- Manual dexterity, flexibility, and visual acuity to perform inspections involving walking, climbing, squatting, lifting, bending, and twisting.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs. and distinguish codes, colors, and symbols correctly.
- Maintain body equilibrium and agility to prevent falls while walking, standing, crouching, or ascending/descending stairs.
- Repetitive bending, kneeling, and extending arms/hands in any direction.
- Ability to learn Company and customer computer systems.
Pay
Annual salary range: $100,000 – $115,000 USD, with additional incentives included in the pay package.
