Safety Manager

About the role

CEIS is seeking an experienced Safety Manager to provide leadership and oversight for construction safety programs supporting large-scale commercial, industrial, and mission-critical construction projects. This individual will serve as the primary safety resource for assigned business units and projects, partnering with operations, project management, subcontractors, and field supervision to ensure projects are executed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with all applicable regulatory and client requirements.

The ideal candidate is an experienced construction safety professional with a strong background supporting high-hazard construction activities, mentoring project teams, and driving continuous improvement through proactive safety leadership. This position requires someone who is equally comfortable in the field coaching crews, leading incident investigations, conducting audits, and collaborating with executive leadership to strengthen overall safety performance.

Responsibilities

• Lead safety oversight for multiple construction projects while promoting a proactive, safety-first culture throughout all phases of project execution.
• Partner with project leadership to develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive site-specific safety programs.
• Conduct routine jobsite inspections, safety audits, and field observations to verify compliance with OSHA regulations, company policies, and client-specific requirements.
• Evaluate project safety performance and identify opportunities for continuous improvement through trend analysis and corrective actions.
• Lead incident investigations, root cause analyses, and development of effective corrective and preventive action plans.
• Review and evaluate subcontractor safety performance while ensuring compliance with contractual safety requirements.
• Mentor project management, superintendents, and field personnel on hazard recognition, risk mitigation, and safe work practices.
• Develop and review Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs), and site-specific safety plans for complex construction activities.
• Support project preconstruction planning by identifying project-specific hazards, resource requirements, and safety strategies.
• Deliver project orientations, toolbox talks, Just-in-Time training, and specialized safety training as required.
• Lead OSHA inspections, client audits, and third-party safety reviews while serving as the primary safety representative during regulatory interactions.
• Monitor project safety metrics, inspection findings, and incident trends, providing recommendations to improve overall project performance.
• Collaborate with operations, estimating, project management, and executive leadership to integrate safety into all aspects of project planning and execution.
• Evaluate high-risk work activities including excavation, cranes, fall protection, scaffolding, electrical work, confined space entry, and heavy equipment operations.
• Support emergency response planning, crisis management, and project safety stand-downs when necessary.
• Assist with the development and continuous improvement of corporate safety policies, procedures, training programs, and safety initiatives.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health & Safety, Construction Management, or a related field preferred. Equivalent combination of education and construction safety experience will be considered.
• Minimum 5 to 8 years of construction safety experience, preferably supporting commercial, industrial, mission-critical, or heavy construction projects.
• Strong working knowledge of OSHA 29 CFR 1926 Construction Standards.
• Experience leading safety programs on multiple concurrent construction projects.
• Demonstrated experience conducting incident investigations, safety audits, and regulatory inspections.
• Strong understanding of high-risk construction activities including:
  • Excavation and trenching
  • Cranes and rigging
  • Fall protection
  • Scaffolding
  • Confined space entry
  • Electrical safety
  • Heavy equipment operations
• Excellent communication, leadership, and coaching skills.
• Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities across active construction projects.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and electronic safety management systems.
• Current First Aid/CPR certification.

Preferred Qualifications

• CHST, CSP, ASP, or other recognized professional safety certification.
• OSHA 500 Trainer certification.
• Experience supporting General Contractors on large commercial or industrial construction projects.
• Experience developing and delivering construction safety training programs.
• Familiarity with predictive safety analytics and digital inspection platforms.
• Experience managing subcontractor safety programs across multiple projects.
