About the role

The Safety Manager ensures all ALMS and subcontracted work activities are completed safely and that the work environment meets all safety standards for employees. Unsafe situations are identified and immediately corrected to meet acceptable standards.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Safety/Environmental Manager and/or applicable manager in day-to-day on-site environmental/safety regulatory compliance administration.
  • Perform safety audits according to outlined processes, file reports timely, and maintain organized file systems in both soft and hard copies.
  • Investigate employee accidents, complete all reports promptly, forward to appropriate entities, and ensure corrective actions are identified and completed.
  • Support injured employees in receiving appropriate occupational health assistance, complete all company forms, and stay informed of employees’ work status.
  • Develop job safety analyses (JSAs) to support restricted duty work assignments, claims management, and development of standard operating procedures.
  • Review, track, and maintain personnel environmental/safety training requirements, updates, and records.
  • Perform risk assessments in the workplace, including shops and offices.
  • Maintain up-to-date records on employees requiring annual physicals for exposures, respirator fit, Hepatitis B vaccines, and others identified.
  • Perform safety surveys (e.g., noise surveys, air monitoring, time and motion studies) to support personal protective equipment policies.
  • Act as the day-to-day safety representative at the facility, report findings, and adhere to accepted protocols and standard operating procedures.
  • Ensure contract and regulatory compliance and conduct construction inspections as required per contract agreements.
  • Complete general facility inspections and environmental compliance monitoring, maintaining all relevant records in an organized system.
  • Support Environmental Permits actions in Air, Water, and disposal of hazardous waste by following accepted guidelines and standards.
  • Assist with Air Quality compliance tasks, including monitoring emissions and hazardous pollutants, and communicate findings to site management.
  • Review and assist in updating Safety/Environmental Management Plans (air, waste stream management, hazardous material, water quality, environmental training, storm-water, environmental compliance assessment, and program management).
  • Perform environmental compliance inspections, surveys, and assessments for Lead Paint, Asbestos, Waste Management, and related functions, making recommendations based on data.
  • Oversee the Initial Accumulation Point (IAP) and waste stream collection centers.
  • Inspect subcontractors performing work for or on behalf of ALMS at the project location.
  • Coordinate with subcontractor functional managers and supervisors to ensure quality workmanship and timely completion of tasks safely and within accepted standards.
  • Report to the Project Manager on all tasks, results of surveys, inspections, and observations relating to ALMS and subcontractor personnel.
  • Ensure scheduled and random sampling inspections are properly performed and documented within assigned time constraints.
  • Verify and define customer complaints, represent management professionally, and recommend resolutions.
  • Follow Government and ALMS directives, standard operating procedures, and other related duties as assigned.
  • Ensure project compliance with all safety regulations stated in 29 CFR 1910 and 1926, as well as state standards, to avoid fines, civil penalties, or criminal prosecution.
  • Maintain timely, accurate, and cost-effective performance of duties.
  • Work closely and harmoniously with fellow workers, local customer officials, and regulatory agency personnel.
  • Maintain assigned work schedule and strict confidentiality of all facility and ALMS-related matters.
  • Support office challenges and changing directives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or applicable experience.
  • Minimum of 4 years of technical experience directly related to safety management support functions.
  • Current state driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
  • Basic computer skills (Excel, Word, etc.).
  • Knowledge of Government contracting terminology and requirements.
  • Experience in safety/environmental regulations and requirements necessary to perform contractual obligations at the project location.
  • Experience in accident investigation and reporting principles and practices.
  • Skilled in hazardous waste management, manifesting, and shipping.
  • Experience with environmental compliance assessment and program management.
  • Basic experience in equipment maintenance.
  • Basic knowledge of OSHA & EPA regulations.
