This Team Lead role reports directly to the Process Engineer. The lead assists leadership with daily activities regarding safety to ensure that the plant meets safety, quality, delivery, and cost goals. The Lead communicates daily, weekly, and monthly requirements and expectations within the facility and is involved in most operational safety aspects across all shifts.
Responsibilities
- Champion safety program(s) to promote a safety-first culture at the plant
- Create, revise, and update safety material
- Gather data by reading machine equipment, gages, prints, and precision measuring instruments to serve safety mission
- Maintain all record keeping associated with safety program(s)
- Communicate safety progress with plant leadership
- Oversee the safety orientation program
- Coach employees and give feedback as needed regarding safety
- Lead a safety HPT (High Performance Team)
- Occasional travel required for additional training and/or best-practice sharing
- Flexible schedule with all shifts weekly, and as needed
- Help execute the site safety plan with attention to OSHA-compliance
- Perform tasks as assigned by leadership
- Foster professionalism with all associates along with internal and external customers
- Work overtime, including short-notice overtime and weekend coverage to meet business needs
- Work safely in accordance with regulations, standards, and procedures in a manner that eliminates risk to health and the environment
- Notify leadership of unsafe conditions or practices, unlawful activities, and activities which present unreasonable health and/or environmental risk
- Report all safety and/or environmental incidents to leadership immediately
- Prevent excess waste of product and/or components by operating the equipment in an efficient manner
- Maintain production schedules
- Participate in peer-based teams (e.g., Natural High Performance Teams), and work with groups to initiate and implement programs such as Lean Manufacturing and 5-S
- Other duties may be assigned later
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
- 3-5 years’ management or supervisory experience
- Good verbal and interpersonal communication skills
- Basic knowledge and use of hand tools
- Sound decision-making skills
- Good math, reading, and writing skills
- Demonstrated mechanical aptitude
- Mental and visual acuity for production of quality product
- Strong troubleshooting skills
- Demonstrated teamwork and teambuilding skills
- Ability to assess and develop individual and team skills and capabilities
- Able to create and maintain enthusiasm for challenges
- Serve as a model by promoting safety, new ideas, and positive change
- OSHA 10-hour or other safety certification preferred
- Basic computer skills – Microsoft Office package
- Ability to lift up to 30 pounds
- Ability to work well in a team environment
- Experience with LEAN teams or leading LEAN teams is preferred
- Must pass pre-employment screening
