Safety & Health Spec/Advisor - Conventional Generation - TX

About the role

This is a mid-level position accountable for implementing and maintaining the company's Safety and Health Procedures. This role performs basic safety and health functions of low to mid-level complexity within a construction environment.

Responsibilities

• Performs drug and alcohol screens in accordance with company substance abuse policies and procedures.
• Conducts employee safety and health training.
• Conducts moderately detailed site safety and health inspections.
• Implements project security programs and procedures.
• Performs record keeping and filing functions.
• Conducts incident and injury/illness investigations.
• Writes detailed injury/illness reports.
• Completes all appropriate company safety and health program documents.
• May act as on-site first aid provider.
• Communicates with the company’s worker’s compensation manager.
• Acts in the capacity of a "lead person" without management responsibility for staff.
• Directs Safety Intern and Safety and Health Specialist 1.

Requirements

• 2+ years of safety and health experience.
• Ability to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements, including criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search.

Preferred Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
• Safety and health certification.
• 2+ years in a construction environment.
• Knowledge of safety and health standards and practices.
• Knowledge of company substance abuse policies and procedures.
• Knowledge of worker’s compensation policies and procedures.
• Ability to perform first aid/medical functions.
• Strong communication skills.
• Proficiency in word processing and spreadsheet computer software programs.
• Ability to write detailed reports.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

Physical Demands:

• Lift and carry heavy items weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Stand, kneel, bend, stoop, move, and walk long distances in and around confined, cluttered places, and uneven areas.
• See and hear naturally or with correction.
• Full range of motion and flexibility consistent with job duties.
• Use hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, or controls according to procedures.
• Repetitive movement.
• Work above 5 feet in height.
• Climb and maintain balance on steel framework, stairs, ladders, and scaffolds.
• Work up to a 12-hour shift doing hard physical labor in varying temperature extremes and outdoor conditions.

Work Environment:

• Typical construction site environment: cramped work spaces and awkward positions.
• Exposure to very hot (above 90°F) or very cold (below 32°F) temperatures and inclement weather (dust, wind, snow, rain, etc.).
• Exposure to extremely bright or low lighting conditions.
• Exposure to distracting or uncomfortable sounds and noise levels.
• Work around hazardous equipment.
• Typical office environment.
