About the role
AECOM is seeking a Safety, Health & Environment Sr Manager to support large-scale transit infrastructure projects in New York City. This role is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing safety and security programs to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and project standards.
Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and manage comprehensive safety, health, and environmental programs for large-scale transit infrastructure projects in New York City
- Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, local safety requirements, and project-specific safety protocols, particularly in tunneling, deep excavation, and subway operations
- Collaborate with public agencies such as NYCDOB, NYCDOT, and NYCDEP to meet safety requirements for working on New York City streets
- Conduct regular safety inspections, risk assessments, and audits to identify potential hazards and implement corrective actions
- Lead safety training programs for employees, contractors, and subcontractors to promote a culture of safety awareness and compliance
- Investigate accidents, near-misses, and safety incidents, preparing detailed reports and recommending preventive measures
- Manage and mentor a team of safety professionals, delegating responsibilities and ensuring consistent application of safety standards across all project sites
- Develop and maintain safety documentation, including policies, procedures, and emergency response plans
- Cook up with project managers and construction teams to integrate safety considerations into project planning and execution phases
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of safety programs, using data analytics to identify trends and areas for improvement
- Liaise with regulatory bodies and represent the company in safety-related matters during inspections or audits
- Stay current with industry best practices, emerging technologies, and regulatory changes in safety, health, and environmental management
- Prepare and present regular safety performance reports to senior management and project stakeholders
- Oversee the selection, distribution, and maintenance of personal protective equipment (PPE) for all project personnel
- Develop and manage the budget for safety-related initiatives and equipment purchases
Qualifications
- Minimum Requirments: Bachelors degree plus 10 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
- Due to the projects associated with this position a US Citizenship is required
- Transit and Transportation Experience Preferred Qualifications: OSHA 30-hour or 40-hour Construction Safety certification (recent/active), Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or CHST (BCSP), Valid Supervisor Site Safety Training (SST)
- 5 plus years of MTA NYC transit experience
- Proficient with Corporate safety rules and programs
- Experience with reviewing safe-work plans
- Experienced in conducting tool-box meetings
