About the role

Balfour Beatty is seeking a Safety Health & Environmental Manager to join our team at a state-of-the-art operations facility consisting of a multi-story building that will include open office areas, collaborative multi-discipline workspace, computer labs, and virtual instruction/distance learning-enabled classrooms, along with an accompanying parking garage. This project is design-build. This position is responsible for the implementation of the company’s safety and loss prevention programs. In addition, this role ensures job-site employees and subcontractors are trained in all safety programs and protocol, including federal/state regulations, in order to prevent accidents and/or injuries. This position may involve traveling between different jobsites or being assigned to one project.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and facilitate safety training and incentive programs, maintain statistical information on costs and frequency, perform accident investigations, manage safety personnel and consultants, including, but not limited to, the following specific tasks:
    • Jobsite visits/safety audits – frequency as dictated by project and/or project personnel
    • Project safety start-up packets – new-hire packets, federal/state compliance materials, safety and workers compensation material
    • Review/assist superintendents with project-specific safety plans, Pre-Task Plans (PTPs), Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs), and other safety submittals
    • Provide support to project team and subcontractors in meetings such as daily huddles, foreman’s meetings, and preparatory meetings
    • SDS books – Provide sources for projects to obtain, ensure that projects have required information on-site
    • Accident investigations, including written reports
    • Addresses and provides resources and solutions for environmental and hazardous material issues and concerns
    • Safety training and tracking of said training for project personnel
    • First aid training to ensure supervisors have required up-to-date first aid cards
    • Keeper of the site safety records
    • Oversees the site’s craft/hourly drug testing program
    • Represents the Company at meetings of safety professionals, alliances, associations, etc.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Safety & Environmental Health or Construction Management/Engineering Degree
  • 4 years of safety experience where safety is at least 50%, preventative, professional level with breadth and depth of safety duties
  • 5 years or more of commercial construction safety experience required
  • 2 years or more of supervisory experience
  • Demonstrates proficiency using a personal computer (PC) and company communication tools, such as email, internet, and Microsoft products (e.g., Word, Excel, Office, Outlook)
  • OSHA 30 required
  • CHST Certification
  • Due to federal contract requirements, this role requires US Citizenship

Pay

$100,000–130,000/year. This is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range, and the range may be modified in the future. An employee's pay position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, shift, travel requirements, any collective bargaining agreements, and business or organizational needs.
