About the Role
The Safety Representative works closely with Line Management to communicate guidelines and established procedures while addressing variances. The role requires identifying clear facts to assist the Safety Support Team in evaluating unusual situations and building strong relationships with the Operations Team to support success.
Responsibilities
- Observe job site working conditions to ensure safe work conditions exist and take corrective action when unsafe conditions are identified, including immediate correction, isolating/restricting access, stopping work, and reporting to supervisors with recommended actions.
- Monitor workforce behavior and actions for unsafe acts, taking immediate corrective action to prevent incidents or accidents.
- Report all observations of unsafe conditions and acts verbally and in writing to management.
- Assist site workforce in planning work with consideration for safety aspects.
- Support site supervision with safety briefs or safety task assignments (TSAs), including performing, reviewing, and guiding supervisors in delivering effective briefs.
- Respond to incidents and accidents by providing emergency aid, ensuring unsafe acts or conditions are corrected to prevent further occurrences.
- Assist in issuing and inspecting personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Assist in investigating safety incidents or accidents.
- Administer first aid to employees with minor injuries.
- Assist in case management of employees injured on the job.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma and a valid Driver’s license.
- At least 3 years of experience in Industrial Field Safety.
- Previous maintenance/TAR experience preferred.
- Ability to meet all physical requirements, including working at heights over 300 ft.
- Basic paperwork skills.
- Reliable transportation.
Preferred Qualifications
- Current or previous Zachry/JVIC employee.
- Certification (training) in one or more of the following: OSHA 10, OSHA 30, OSHA, confined space (competent person), excavation (competent person), NCCER Field Safety, NCCER Safety Technology, and/or BCSP’s certification.
Physical Requirements
- Extensive standing, walking, bending, squatting, and lifting.
- Frequent use of arms and hands to signal, grab, hold, turn, push, and pull objects, materials, controls, and tools.
- May be required to lift, carry, and move up to 50 lbs.
- Work at heights, climb ladders and stairways, work off platforms and man lifts, and occasionally work on open structures using appropriate fall protection.
- Good visual acuity and depth perception.
- Ability to work outside in changing weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, snow, and wind.
- Required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE), including a hard hat, safety glasses/goggles, ear plugs/muffs, masks/respirators, safety vests, gloves, and leather work boots.
