Safety Engineer

Qualifications

The Safety Engineer is responsible for supporting day-to-day and long-term safety and health activities for all mill operations and helping support mill alignment with corporate initiatives and priorities. The position interfaces directly with department leaders and Safety Facilitators to ensure everyone understands the mill and regulatory compliance mandates.

• Manage and coordinate multiple and complex assignments
• Lead a diverse workforce
• Lead meetings, conduct training
• Strong listening skills
• Effectively manage change and handle conflict in the workplace
• Strong propensity to lead an effective hazard recognition program and use data to identify improvements
• Excellent written communication, documentation, and organization skills
• Use of both specialized computer applications for safety management as well as proficient use of Microsoft Office applications

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in occupational health and safety (or related field)
• Minimum of 5+ years’ experience supporting industrial health & safety programs preferably in heavy industrial manufacturing environments
• An appropriate professional certification, or equivalent experience
• Willingness to travel up to 20% of the time
• Prior experience with Emergency Response and Coordination, including coordination of confined space rescue teams and HAZMAT response
• Experience with incident investigation and demonstrating a history of implementing effective, sustainable corrective actions
• Process Safety Management experience
• Prior use of SharePoint Online, Power Apps, and Power BI
• Expertise integrating Lean Principles into safety programs and procedures
