Safety Engineer Indorama Ventures Xylenes & PTA, Decatur, USA Health and Safety Superintendent General Description:The Safety Engineer works to eliminate or control hazardous conditions created by human error or equipment/machine operation that may result in injury to personnel or damage to equipment or property. Develops and implements loss prevention, safety and health, and emergency preparedness programs. Works to ensure plant-wide compliance with OSHA and IVXP Safety regulations. Advises management on interpretation and application of rules and regulations related to Safety, Emergency Response, Fire Systems and Process Safety Management. Must have the ability to apply the proper principles, standards, practices, or techniques to ensure the site is safe and in compliance with government regulations and IVXP policies. Roles and Responsibilities Performs duties related to safety programsParticipates in hazard reviewsServes as technical resource for HAZOP teamConducts and signs-off Pre-startup Safety Reviews (PSSRs) and Management of Change (MOC) bulletinsLeads, or assists with, incident investigationsCoordinates HSSE audits; coordinates completion of response and action plansParticipates in Turn Around and Shut Down meetingsOriginates, reviews and updates safety regulationsServes as unit HSSE resource; responds to requests for day-to-day and TAR technical assistanceParticipates in Job Safety Analyses (JSA) and Group Risk Assessments (GRA)Participates in contractor safety meetingsManages HSSE programsOversee unit safety programs; assures compliance with OSHA regulationsImplements local and corporate safety policiesRecommend changes in policies and proceduresParticipates in unit safety meetingsParticipates in and leads safety auditsCoordinates external audits; provides information to auditorsReview safety statistics analyzes data and identifies trends makes recommendations for corrective actionCoordinates housekeeping auditsReviews and approvals work permit templates for Confined Space Entry (CSE), Lock-Out Tag-Out (LOTO) Hot Work (HW) and other safety related permits.Prepares, and/or oversees the preparation of monthly and annual safety reports Perform duties related to safety training and interactionResearch training materials and makes recommendations for employee trainingDevelops and delivers employee trainingInteracts with vendors, suppliers and contractorsInteracts with regulatory agenciesParticipating in professional organizations Assumes responsibility for related duties as required or assigned.Maintains a clean and well-organized work areaAttend meetings as requiredAttends training as requiredComplies with all HSSE programs, policies and proceduresParticipates on the Incident Management TeamParticipates on various HSSE committeesPerforms special projects and miscellaneous duties as assigned Education, Experience, Certifications Required: Grade J Level5 years plus experience in manufacturing with responsibilities expected for experienceExcellent oral and written communications and presentation skillsStrong interpersonal skillsKnowledge of local, state and federal safety regulationsAdvanced Microsoft Office skills, including Word, Excel and Power PointAbility to recognize and evaluate hazardsKnowledge of manufacturing operationsThorough knowledge of local, state and federal safety programs and regulations Education, Experience, Certifications Preferred: 2 years’ experience in chemical manufacturingProfessional certification CSP or CIHExperience with ISO Certifications Physical Capabilities Requirements:Please see HSSE Safety Eng Job Element Checklist
