Safety Engineer

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Systems Engineer to lead complex systems engineering efforts with a strong emphasis on personal and environmental safety. The ideal candidate will bring deep technical expertise, safety engineering knowledge, and a proven ability to deliver innovative, safety-compliant solutions in support of mission-critical defense programs.

Responsibilities

• Lead systems engineering activities with a focus on safety requirements, hazard analysis, and risk mitigation across the full system lifecycle
• Develop and maintain Safety Management Plans, hazard analyses, and environmental impact assessments
• Ensure compliance with DoD safety standards and regulations
• Integrate personal and environmental safety requirements into system architectures and designs
• Conduct and support Safety Reviews, including Preliminary Hazard Analysis (PHA) and System Safety Working Groups (SSWG)
• Collaborate with environmental, health, and safety (EHS) teams to ensure regulatory compliance
• Mentor junior engineers on safety engineering best practices
• Support proposals, design reviews, and customer interactions related to safety requirements

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, Safety Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related Science, Engineering, Technology, or Mathematics field
• 2+ years of job-related experience, or a Master's degree and 6 months of job-related experience
• Department of Defense Secret security clearance obtainable within a reasonable time after hire; applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information
• U.S. citizenship is required
• Must be local to the area and able to work onsite in the Pittsfield, MA office with some telecommuting allowed up to 2 days a week
• Active Secret or Top Secret clearance preferred

Pay

Target salary range: USD $100,219.00/Yr. – USD $111,180.00/Yr. Actual pay may vary based on experience and geographic location.
