About the Role

The Site Safety and Health Engineer ensures all managers and supervisors enforce maximum safety performance and awareness among employees by enthusiastically and consistently administering all safety and health policies and procedures established in the Conti Safety, Health, and Environmental Program. This position is responsible for the project Safety and Health Plan and daily coordination of safety activities with the Project Management Team. Travel to project sites in New Jersey is required.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the development and maintenance of the Site Safety and Health Plan (SSHP).
  • Ensure site compliance with specified safety and health requirements, including federal, state, and local laws, OSHA regulations, and all aspects of the SSHP.
  • Ensure all safety and health operations and policies comply with applicable government, program, contract, and task order requirements.
  • Ensure Project Supervision enforces safety procedures and policies and addresses non-compliance among all employees, subcontractors, and vendors.
  • Conduct site-specific orientations based on the Conti site safety and health plans for all project personnel, including Conti and subcontracted employees.
  • Participate in Foremen's meetings and weekly planning huddles to ensure the project pre-plans activities with safety-focused steps.
  • Develop and conduct weekly site safety meetings and toolbox talks.
  • Perform daily onsite safety and health inspections; complete corrective action reports based on findings and follow up on deficiencies.
  • Ensure the project medical surveillance programs are implemented as required (e.g., HAZWOPER physical, respiratory clearance).
  • Generate and maintain all project documentation and ensure it remains available on-site (e.g., Daily Reports/Field Notes, Safety Audits, Daily Safety Meetings (Take 5), Incident Investigation, Weekly Safety Meeting, training records, and Safety Data Sheets (SDS)).
  • Provide required Safety and Health submittals to the Project Management team.
  • Interface with the company's insurance provider, OSHA, and the client on all job inspections and safety and health-related issues.
  • Perform accident/injury investigations and recommend corrective actions.
  • Deliver OSHA, DOT, and EPA-required trainings.

Requirements

  • Five or more years of relevant Safety and Health experience in the industrial, construction, or environmental fields with progressively greater responsibility, with a focus on Heavy Highway, Bridges, and Infrastructure.
  • Bachelor’s degree in safety, occupational health, engineering, or a related field (preferred).
  • Three or more years of experience in the construction industry (preferred).
  • Certified or pursuing certification as a Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST) or Occupational Health and Safety Technician (OHST).
  • Experience developing and delivering OSHA, DOT, and EPA-required training.
  • Completion of an OSHA 30 Hour Construction Industry Outreach Course (OSHA 500 preferred).
  • Expert knowledge of Air Monitoring/Sampling (preferred).
  • Working knowledge of Safety and Health Standards and regulations (OSHA, DOT, EPA, etc.) and how to apply them to specific tasks/activities.
  • Training in Incident Investigation, HAZWOPER, Excavation/Trenching, Fall Protection, Hazard Communication, Scaffold Safety, Fire Protection, and Electrical Safety.
  • Excellent teamwork, communication, and people skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Solid time management system and excellent organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office products.
