Safety Engineer
This role independently coordinates, implements, and sustains safety and environmental activities for US operations at the Sanborn Industrial Manufacturing facility. You will collaborate with the Environmental, Health & Safety Division Manager, Safety Technician, and the site’s product and manufacturing teams to review new or changed manufacturing processes and confirm compliance with safety and environmental requirements.
Responsibilities
- Review and interpret technical data to develop plans for corrective actions or improvement initiatives based on reviewed data and technical knowledge.
- Evaluate safety and environmental needs related to proposed raw material, equipment, and process changes.
- Review and characterize the physical properties and hazards of materials, both individually and in combination with other chemical, environmental, and process risks.
- Perform emission calculations.
- Communicate effectively with government organizations.
- Work with existing third-party suppliers and evaluate new third-party suppliers for items related to safety and environmental, including testing services, training services, and equipment acquisition.
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations related to safety and environmental activities.
- Assist in driving a behavior-based quality and safety culture characterized by accountability, commitment, and teamwork.
- Create CAD drawings to support safety changes and regulatory activities.
Requirements
- Minimum of 2 years of EHS or Environmental Engineering experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline.
- Working knowledge of and ability to understand chemical reactions and mass balances.
- Demonstrated track record of performing legally and ethically in a regulatory environment.
- Strong communication skills.
- Safety training and compliance knowledge.
- Experience with construction safety, permitting, air quality monitoring, and environmental health.
- Proficiency in OSHA 30, EHS management, and safety management.
- Ability to manage and develop one direct report (Safety Technician).
- Ability to create CAD drawings (AutoCAD).
- Experience in environmental compliance, monitoring, and engineering.
Work Environment
The role is based in an office and manufacturing environment with frequent entry into operations/manufacturing areas for site inspections, evaluations, testing, sample gathering, and process/product changes. These areas may have moderate noise, presence of natural or artificial light, exposure to work temperatures from ambient to controlled, hard surfaces for standing and walking, and moderate amounts of airborne dust and graphite particles. Personal Protective Equipment such as approved footwear, respirator, and safety goggles/glasses may be required.
Pay
The pay range for this position is $65,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year.
