About the role

A well-established heavy civil construction company is seeking an experienced Safety Director to lead and enhance company-wide safety initiatives across earthwork, utilities, demolition, and paving operations. This leadership role will oversee safety programs, OSHA/MSHA compliance, employee training, jobsite inspections, incident investigations, and continuous improvement efforts. The Safety Director will work closely with executive leadership, project teams, and field personnel to build a strong safety culture and ensure best practices are followed throughout the organization. This is an excellent opportunity for a safety professional looking to take ownership of a company-wide safety program with strong leadership support and long-term career stability.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and maintain company safety programs across multiple construction operations.
  • Develop and implement safety policies, procedures, and training programs.
  • Conduct employee safety training, toolbox talks, and compliance meetings.
  • Perform regular jobsite inspections to identify hazards and implement corrective actions.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, MSHA, and applicable state and federal regulations.
  • Investigate incidents, accidents, and near misses while performing root cause analysis.
  • Develop corrective and preventative action plans to improve safety performance.
  • Partner with operations leadership and field teams to promote accountability and safety awareness.
  • Maintain safety documentation, reporting, and compliance records.
  • Stay current on industry regulations, safety trends, and construction best practices.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of experience in construction safety, heavy civil safety, industrial safety, or related environments.
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations and construction safety standards.
  • Experience supporting heavy civil, excavation, utilities, paving, mining, or similar construction operations preferred.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with field employees, leadership, and project teams.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and leadership skills.
  • Experience conducting safety training, audits, and incident investigations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Occupational Health, Construction Management, or equivalent experience preferred.
  • CDL training experience is a plus.
