(RLW) is looking for a Safety Director who thrives in the field, builds strong relationships with operations teams, and wants to play a key role in driving safety across large-scale heavy civil projects throughout the Western U.S. This is not a desk-only position. We are looking for someone who enjoys being on projects, partnering with field leadership, mentoring teams, and helping create a strong safety culture where people go home safe every day.
About the role
Our teams support major heavy civil projects including:
- Transportation and roadway infrastructure
- Structural concrete and bridges
- Water and wastewater facilities
- Mission critical/data center infrastructure
- Mass excavation and earthwork
- Heavy foundations and underground utilities
Responsibilities
- Support and help lead safety operations across multiple heavy civil projects
- Travel regularly to jobsites throughout the Western U.S. to support field teams and safety initiatives
- Partner closely with operations leadership, superintendents, and project teams to proactively drive safe work practices
- Conduct jobsite audits, inspections, incident investigations, and safety coaching
- Help develop and implement company safety programs, procedures, and training initiatives
- Mentor and support field safety professionals and project leadership teams
- Assist with OSHA compliance, documentation, reporting, and corrective action follow-through
- Promote a culture where safety is viewed as an operational advantage — not just a requirement
Requirements
- Strong safety leadership experience within heavy civil construction
- Experience supporting projects such as roadway, structural concrete, excavation, utilities, bridges, or water/wastewater
- Ability and willingness to travel frequently to active jobsites
- Strong communication skills with the ability to build trust in the field and with leadership teams
- Working knowledge of OSHA standards and construction safety best practices
- CSP or ASP, CHST/OSHA 500/510 or related certifications required
