About the Role

The Safety Coordinator will implement CEC's safety programs through daily field activities, regulatory compliance, audit oversight, and developing project-specific corrective action plans to address safety issues. This role is safety-sensitive and focuses on coaching and mentoring employees to foster safe behaviors and an overall safety culture at project sites.

Responsibilities

  • Assist and coach Crew Foremen/General Foremen in completing daily Operational Risk Management (ORM) boards and developing Job Hazard Analyses.
  • Photo-document completed ORM boards daily.
  • Work day and/or night shifts, overtime, and weekends as required by the project schedule.
  • Submit daily Site Safety Audit reports, documenting hazards, deficiencies, corrective actions, and supporting evidence with attachments and photographs.
  • Interact regularly with field personnel and site supervision to address safety observations and provide feedback for resolution.
  • Assist with job site-specific safety orientations for new employees.
  • Support site supervision in completing incident investigations and root cause analysis.
  • Perform periodic audits of power tools and equipment (e.g., scissor lifts, forklifts, fall protection, laser levelers) to ensure proper maintenance.
  • Ensure subcontractor compliance with applicable rules, regulations, and project safety requirements.
  • Perform other related duties to ensure efficient and effective processes and project completion.

Requirements

  • 1–3 years of construction safety experience (electrical or mechanical safety experience preferred).
  • OSHA 30 Construction certification required; OSHA 510/511 preferred.
  • Understanding of electrical industry construction and general industry consensus standards (e.g., NFPA, NESC, ASTM, ANSI).
  • Experience with a construction workforce is desired.
  • CPR/First Aid certification.
  • Ability to present and train others effectively.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to work independently and influence behaviors.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).
  • Safety certifications in competency are a plus.
  • Bilingual skills are desired.

Qualifications

A degree or extensive training in environmental health and safety is a plus.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

  • Extensive travel by vehicle and significant work at construction sites, including all stages and weather conditions (rain, heat, cold, snow).
  • Work at extreme heights, in restricted areas (e.g., switchgear rooms, manholes, utility tunnels, crawl spaces, attics), confined spaces, and on slippery or uneven surfaces.
  • Work on ladders, scaffolds, aerial lifts, catwalks, in ditches, and excavations.
  • Exposure to single and multi-story buildings with typical heavy construction site hazards, including portable sanitary facilities.
  • Must be able to stand, bend, stoop, squat, crawl, climb, walk, kneel, balance, push, pull, and reach overhead.
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.
  • Climb ladders of all types.
  • Good vision (normal or corrected), including close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Good hearing (normal or corrected).
  • Wear personal protective equipment (hard hat, safety glasses, safety vest) at all times.
  • Ability to speak, hear, and write clearly for detailed oral and written communication.
  • Ability to concentrate for extended periods.
