Duties And Responsibilities
- Prepare project safety plans and Job Safety Analyses (JSAs) scaffolding, surface preparation, mechanical installation and associated construction activities, ensuring emphasis on direct controls and safeguards that eliminate and mitigate hazardous energies.
- Maintain a strong field presence to assist operational personnel with high-risk activities, including real-time hazard recognition and implementation of effective controls during operations.
- Mentor and build capacity in foremen and craft workers to enable them to recognize hazards, apply direct controls, safeguards, and make safe operational decisions.
- Conduct daily field observations and inspections of containment, ventilation, fall protection, scaffolds, rigging, task-specific PPE, and more to verify compliance with OSHA 1926 standards.
- Support pre-task planning, management of change, daily worker safety engagements, and incident/near-miss investigations with a focus on continuous improvement.
- Prepare, present, and deliver safety training; facilitate safety meetings; and represent safety at project kickoff meetings.
- Provide practical guidance on confined space, fall protection, respiratory protection, hazardous communication, chemical storage, and other regulatory requirements.
- Maintain accurate records of safety plans, inspections, observations, and corrective actions.
- Empowered to intervene and stop work when imminent hazards or unsafe conditions are observed.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 3–5 years of relevant experience in construction safety.
- Direct involvement in confined space and fall protection will be looked upon favorably.
- Working knowledge of OSHA 1926 standards, preferably those related to fall protection, scaffolds, hazard communication, respiratory protection, and abrasive blasting.
- OSHA 30-Hour Construction certification.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret SDS information and develop practical field controls.
- Strong experience with Microsoft Suite.
- Strong interpersonal and mentoring skills with the ability to build trust and capacity in field teams.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Office based position with minimum 25% travel (out of state) and regular field/project presence (40-60%).
- Able to work at heights and in varying environmental conditions.
