About the role

This position implements, and monitors CalOSHA & HR compliance initiatives, updates safety protocols and manuals, and risk mitigation initiatives to promote a safe, equitable, and legally compliant workplace.

Responsibilities

  • Champions Safety. Take an active role prioritizing safety for yourself and others to ensure zero accidents and are in total compliance with all policies and procedures.
  • Develop, train, and enforce all established safety procedures and protocols.
  • Manages MRF safety supplies (PPE).
  • Maintains awareness of regulatory changes and participates in updating policies, procedures, forms, and other documents.
  • Covers workplace safety programs (I.e. Prescription Safety Glasses, Safety Shoes).
  • Maintains and updates the Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP), Workplace Violence Prevention Plan (WVPP), and Emergency Response Plan (ERP).
  • Led and takes notes during Safety Meetings and ensures follow-up on next step actions.
  • Oversight of general site/facility cleanliness and ensures daily housekeeping plan is followed in assigned areas and that all areas are cleaned effectively.
  • Inspects all working areas and equipment regularly to identify opportunities for improving the safety of employees.
  • Prepares and maintains all safety records including, accident and near-miss investigations, OSHA logs, permits, safety audits and walk-through reports and other documentation.
  • Recommends and presses for safety improvements in equipment and working conditions and practices.
  • Investigates Accidents. Participate in investigations of accidents and near misses and the identification of root causes and corrective actions. Maintain a database of accurate injury and safety information.
  • Manages, plans, and implements programs to reduce or eliminate occupational injuries, illnesses, deaths, and financial losses.
  • Manages and coordinates safety activities, through subordinate supervisory personnel, to ensure implementation of safety activities.
  • Manage the onboarding experience to ensure new employees are successfully integrated into the company.
  • As a resource for employees by answering HR-related questions and providing guidance on company policies and procedures.
  • Support employee relations by assisting managers with coaching conversations, documentation, and workplace concerns.
  • Administer benefits, leave of absence processes, and other employee lifecycle activities in partnership with HR leadership.
  • Coordinate workplace safety programs to ensure compliance with OSHA, Cal/OSHA, and other applicable safety standards.
  • Maintain and update the Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP), Workplace Violence Prevention Plan (WVPP), and Emergency Response Plan (ERP).
  • Facilitates Safety Meetings and ensures follow-up on next step actions.

Qualifications

  • Minimum five (5) years of experience in workplace safety coordination, workers compensation and HR administration.
  • Experience interpreting and applying OSHA/Cal/OSHA, FLSA, ADA, FMLA, or other state, federal labor laws required.
  • Problem-Solving Skills. Must possess excellent hazard recognition skills, working with different partners to address the challenges and problems ensuring accurate, safe, and efficient solutions.
  • Ability to teach supervisors, managers and other leaders about health and safety standards.
  • Presenting safety training sessions to personnel.
  • Must be able to read and speak well enough to communicate, understand, and respond to questions, instructions, signals, and safety training.
  • Prefer familiarity with Baling Equipment - Safety Requirements for Installation, Maintenance, and Operation.
  • Ability to analyze health and safety data.
  • Safely operate broom, shovel, rake, screwdriver, pliers and other non-mechanical hand tools.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lb. unassisted at times.
  • Advanced experience in Word, Excel, Gmail Suites, including functional ability to utilize software knowledge for automated processes and data collection.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Bachelor’s Degree, or in lieu of degree, High School Diploma or GED.
  • PHR, or SHRM-CP certification preferred but not required.
