Safety Coordinator

Position Description

Your top priority is to adhere to safety policies, programs, and procedures that comply with local, state, and federal regulations.
Conduct regular safety audits to ensure compliance with safety regulations and organizational safety standards.
Provide safety training for new employees and regular refresher courses for existing employees.

Experience

  • High School education
  • Minimum of two years in Workers’ compensation experience
  • Proficient understanding of OSHA standards and guidelines
  • Construction or manufacturing industry experience, preferred

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Own safety planning to ensure all projects are ready for mobilization: Prior to the start of Harmon's work, verify and assist site safety start up requirements.
  • Own onsite safety culture and compliance: Follow up with onsite leadership, to ensure safety initiatives are completed. Demonstrate safety knowledge and drive accountability to Harmon policies and standards.
  • Conduct and facilitate Harmon safety audits: Complete corporate safety audits. Review results with onsite leaders and ensure all corrective actions have been addressed.
  • Maintain safety records: Keep up-to-date records of safety inspections, accident investigations, employee safety training, and compliance reports.
  • Cook up safety equipment and supplies: Coordinate with Safety Manager and onsite leaders to ensure proper safety equipment, supplies and PPE. Ensure all equipment is being properly inspected and results are documented. Verify that any equipment failing inspection is fixed prior to use or disposed of immediately

Requirements

  • Serve as employee resource: Act as frontline intermediary for employee safety questions. Use critical thinking skills and organizational savvy actively direct employees to the proper channels (handbook, contracts, or CBA) by providing customer support and information.
  • Safety & Risk Management: Evaluate and minimize unique risks
    Coordinate with onsite leaders to review unique, challenging, or changing scope and means & methods for safety best practices
    Track safety performance: Regularly track and report on safety performance metrics such as accident frequency rates, near-miss incidents, and safety program participation.
  • Learning & Development: Participate in safety orientation process
    Collaborate with Safety Manager and onsite managers to share best practices and participate in safety orientation process.
    Ensure the content matches the work assignments.
    Manage safety training for the OU’s: Coordinate safety training for the OU’s as outlined by Corporate EHS.
    Act as a resource for OSHA 10 and 30 safety training as well as required training for certified, qualified and competent persons.
  • Critical thinking: Manage incident reporting and investigations: Review reports, work with onsite team to determine root cause(s), follow up on corrective actions if needed.
    Consult and communicate with OU’s to prevent similar future incidents.
  • Communication: Build and maintain client relationships: Develop working relationship with customer project site safety representatives to ensure needs and expectations are being met and discuss any issues or opportunities for improvement.
    As a safety resource: Maintain basic knowledge of OSHA standards, rules and guidelines. Conduct research and communicate changes to OSHA rules as they occur.
