Safety Auditor

About the role

The Department of Design and Construction, Division of Safety and Site Support seeks a Safety Auditor. The selected candidate will oversee all aspects of DDC’s safety-related construction programs.

Responsibilities

• Conduct field safety audits and inspections of construction project sites to identify hazardous conditions that may impact workers or the public
• Ensure the implementation of corrective actions
• Enforce DDC safety policies and procedures in alignment with local, state, and federal regulations, including, but not limited to, OSHA, DOT, DOB, and MUTCD
• Prepare and issue electronic reports documenting field safety findings
• Manage safety-related electronic records
• Ensure compliance with applicable safety standards
• Attend construction meetings
• Support emergency response efforts during both working and off-hours
• Participate in accident investigations
• Communicate effectively with project staff, consultant teams, and contractors
• Review Site Safety Plans (SSPs)
• Prepare various safety reports

Requirements

• A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university including or supplemented by 28 semester credits in industrial hygiene, environmental health science, occupational health science and/or safety engineering
• A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university including or supplemented by 28 semester credits in the physical or natural sciences, civil engineering, mechanical engineering, environmental engineering, chemical engineering and/or toxicology and one year of satisfactory, full-time experience in the identification, evaluation and control of health and safety hazards
• A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university and two years of satisfactory full-time work experience as described in “2” above
• A combination of education and experience that is the equivalent of the course work and/or experience described in “1,” “2,” and “3” above
• A Motor Vehicle Driver License valid in the State of New York

License Requirements

• A Motor Vehicle Driver License valid in the State of New York

Preferred Skills

• Excellent verbal, written, and computer skills
• Construction-related experience
• Working knowledge of construction safety requirements (OSHA, DOB, DEP, FDNY)
• Construction safety auditing
• OSHA Construction Industry 30-Hour certification
• A motor vehicle driver license valid in the State of New York
• Comfortable driving in all 5-boroughs of NYC

55a Program

To be eligible for placement in Assignment Level II individuals must have, in addition to meeting the minimum requirements, one year of satisfactory full-time work experience in the identification, evaluation and control of health and safety hazards.

Residency Requirement

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County. To determine if the residency requirement applies to you, please discuss with the agency representative at the time of interview.
