Opportunity Summary
The Safety Associate will support the development and continuous improvement of programs and systems that promote environmental, health, and safety excellence. This role will collaborate with the Multi-Site Safety Manager to ensure compliance with legislative, corporate, and industry standards.
How You Will Impact Smurfit Westrock Packaging Solutions
- Safeguard the facility against injuries and incidents by implementing the Smurfit Westrock Annual Safety and Health Strategy.
- Investigate accidents and injuries, prepare necessary materials and evidence, and cooperate in legal proceedings.
- Promote a proactive safety culture by focusing on incident prevention and regulatory compliance.
- Develop and implement site-specific safety objectives and action plans.
- Conduct internal EHS self-assessments and audits to ensure compliance with regulations.
- Ensure compliance with DOT and forklift safety procedures, collaborating with site operations leaders and fleet safety.
- Conduct daily walk-throughs and monthly safety meetings.
- Maintain, review, and report EHS performance, identifying areas for improvement and implementing corrective actions.
- Assist with other safety-related duties as assigned.
What You Need to Succeed
- Preferred experience in warehouse, distribution, or manufacturing environments.
- High School diploma or equivalent, with a preferred Associate's or Bachelor's degree in a related field.
- 3-5 years of experience in a similar role within manufacturing, production, or industrial environments.
- AED/CPR/First Aid certification is preferred.
- Accident investigation, root cause analysis, audit, training, DOT compliance, forklift certifications, and OSHA 30+ are required.
- Experience leading safety initiatives for up to 35-45 warehouse associates.
- Area Safety Manager experience, not on-site consistently, involves leading safety meetings and working with managers and team members.
- Bilingual skills are advantageous.
- Attention to detail, analytical skills, and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, including conducting monthly safety training meetings.
- Basic computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Physical Requirements
- Regular keyboarding, sitting, standing, and walking.
- Exposure to environmental noises and hazards in both office and warehouse settings.
- Use of appropriate personal protective equipment, such as safety shoes, safety vest, bump cap, gloves, hearing protection, safety glasses, and respiratory protection.
Work Environment
The work environment is usually moderate to noisy.
