Safety Assistant

About the Role

Assist in the administration of plant environmental, health, and safety policies to ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations and to meet or exceed established goals.

Responsibilities

• Assist in training plant safety practices and document as directed to create a safe working environment.
• File Worker’s Compensation claims as needed and maintain document files.
• Accompany employees on initial physicians visits and/or drug screens; attend follow-up visits as needed.
• Work with the Safety Manager on various projects and initiatives.
• Assist in conducting ongoing safety inspections and audits of facilities, operations, and equipment.
• Assist in the maintenance of SDS Programs.
• Actively participate on assigned teams and/or projects.
• Role model CITE and Working in Teams principles.
• Perform other tasks as directed by the Safety Manager.

Requirements

• Experience in Occupational Safety & Health, Safety Engineering, or related discipline preferred.
• 0 to 2 years of experience; manufacturing experience preferred.
• Good personal computer skills; Microsoft products experience preferred (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality and demonstrate understanding of PHI.
• Experience working in a team environment to meet or exceed goals.
• Strong planning, organization, and time management skills.
• Demonstrated problem-solving skills.
• CPR and First Aid certification preferred.
• Must be bilingual (Spanish & English).

Skills

• Communications Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret business and technical journals and financial reports. Ability to communicate effectively with customers, regulatory agencies, and the public. Ability to develop and deliver presentations to production teams, plant-level teams, or public groups.
• Mathematical Skills: Ability to apply basic mathematical concepts (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) to manufacturing or financial performance recording. Ability to read and use a tape measure.
• Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with abstract and concrete variables.

Physical Demands

• Regularly required to stand, walk, talk, or hear.
• Frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms.
• Frequently required to lift up to 25 pounds; occasionally required to lift up to 50 pounds.

Working Environment

Typical indoor manufacturing environment with moderate to high noise levels; hearing protection may be required on the production floor. Safety glasses are required on the production floor. Off-shift work and occasional weekend work may be required.
