Safety Assistant - Maine & Vermont GoNetspeed | Full-Time, Direct-Hire Position Primary Location: New Gloucester, Maine Territory: Maine and Vermont Department: Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Employment Type: Full-Time, Direct Hire Position Overview GoNetspeed is seeking a motivated and experienced Safety Specialist to support our telecommunications construction and field operations throughout Maine and Vermont. This position plays an important role in promoting a strong safety culture, ensuring compliance with company safety policies and applicable regulatory requirements, and supporting employees and subcontractors in maintaining safe working environments. The ideal candidate will have a solid background in occupational safety, preferably within telecommunications, utilities, construction, or a related industry. This individual must be comfortable working independently, traveling between job sites, and building positive working relationships with employees, supervisors, and management. Key Responsibilities Conduct routine field safety observations, inspections, and job site assessments involving company employees and subcontractorsIdentify potential hazards, unsafe work practices, and opportunities for improvement, providing practical recommendations and corrective actionsSupport compliance with OSHA regulations, company safety policies, and established safe operating proceduresConduct and assist with safety training, including ladder safety, fall protection, electrical hazard awareness, personal protective equipment (PPE), traffic control, and other field-related safety topicsParticipate in incident and near-miss investigations, assist with identifying root causes, and recommend preventive measuresMonitor subcontractor safety performance and communicate concerns or deficiencies to appropriate management personnelAssist with employee onboarding and safety orientation programsPerform safety assessments of company offices, warehouses, vehicles, and field equipment as neededMaintain accurate documentation of field observations, training activities, inspections, and corrective actionsPrepare weekly safety activity reports and communicate findings to the National Safety Manager and operational leadershipCollaborate with construction managers, supervisors, and field employees to reinforce safe work practicesPromote a proactive safety culture through coaching, education, and positive employee engagementTravel throughout assigned Maine and Vermont markets as operational needs require Qualifications Required: Previous occupational safety experience in construction, utilities, telecommunications, or a related fieldWorking knowledge of OSHA regulations and general construction safety practicesAbility to recognize workplace hazards and recommend practical corrective actionsStrong communication, organizational, and documentation skillsAbility to work independently, prioritize responsibilities, and manage multiple field locationsComfortable conducting safety discussions, field coaching, and employee trainingProficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, and ExcelValid driver's license and acceptable driving recordWillingness to travel regularly throughout Maine and Vermont. Time spent 85% Maine/15% Vermont Preferred: Experience in telecommunications construction, aerial line work, underground utility construction, or related operationsOSHA 30-Hour Construction certificationExperience conducting incident investigations and field safety auditsExperience delivering safety training or facilitating safety meetingsFirst Aid/CPR/AED instructor certification or willingness to obtain certification What We're Looking For We are looking for someone who understands that effective safety management involves more than identifying violations.
