Safety Area Manager
Ralph L. Wadsworth Construction is looking for a hands-on, field-focused Safety Area Manager to lead and support safety efforts across heavy civil projects throughout the region. Safety is a key part of operations and project success at RLW, and this role works closely with project teams, superintendents, and leadership to drive a proactive safety culture.
About the Role
RLW offers the opportunity to work on large-scale heavy civil projects across the Western U.S., including transportation infrastructure, structural concrete, bridges, water/wastewater facilities, mission-critical/data center construction, and mass excavation projects. Responsibilities
- Support and help lead safety efforts across multiple heavy civil projects
- Conduct site visits, audits, safety observations, and inspections
- Partner with project teams to identify and mitigate jobsite risks
- Coach field employees and leadership on safe work practices
- Assist with incident investigations and corrective action plans
- Help ensure compliance with OSHA and company safety standards
- Deliver and support safety training initiatives
- Build strong relationships with crews, superintendents, and operations teams
- Promote and reinforce a proactive, team-oriented safety culture
Requirements
- Experience in heavy civil construction safety
- Ability and willingness to travel frequently to active jobsites
- Strong field presence and relationship-building skills
- Knowledge of OSHA regulations and construction safety practices
- Ability to work collaboratively with operations and field leadership
- Strong communication and organizational skills
Preferred Qualifications
- OSHA 500/510 certifications
- CHST, CSP, or other safety certifications
- Experience supporting roadway, excavation, utility, concrete, or infrastructure projects
