Area Safety Manager
About the role
Hensel Phelps is seeking a Safety Manager to join our team. This position is eligible for a competitive salary range of $98,610.00-$108,990 annually in Colorado.
Responsibilities
- Effectively communicate with various stakeholders including project owners, insurance carriers, Hensel Phelps leadership, staff, craft and trade partners.
- Aid the regional director of safety and health and project teams in the administration of the company's safety and health program.
- Conduct project and region level training and provide educational materials designed to develop and maintain the safety culture and an effective safety and health program.
- Assist projects with pre-job planning, start-up and identification and control of high-risk activities.
- Conduct jobsite visits to assist the project team in recognizing, evaluating and controlling safety and/or industrial hygiene issues. Provide technical assistance and advice to field personnel, as needed.
- Aid project teams during serious accidents including the investigations of serious accidents, near misses and crisis management.
- Work with the insurance company’s loss control engineer’s project visit.
- Aid in the management of workers compensation claims including the establishment and monitoring of jobsite clinics.
- Develop safety professionals through training and mentorship.
- Actively recruit at designated colleges for safety professionals.
- Assist director of safety and health and project teams during OSHA inspections and with citation defense.
Requirements
- A 4-year degree in Occupational Safety and Health or related field of study or equivalent work experience.
- 10 years’ experience in safety on commercial construction projects.
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Safety Management Specialist (SMS) designation preferred.
- Valid Driver’s License.
- Strong communication skills.
- Experience overseeing multiple projects and/or safety managers.
- Advanced Safety Training.
- Computer software - Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel based templates, Prolog, Primavera and AutoDesk Suite.
Qualifications
- Preferred: Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Safety Management Specialist (SMS) designation.
- Preferred: Valid Driver’s License.
- Preferred: Strong communication skills.
- Preferred: Experience overseeing multiple projects and/or safety managers.

Pay
The salary range for this position is $98,610.00-$108,990 annually in Colorado.
Schedule
Moderate Work. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. The individual in this position will periodically walk, kneel, sit, crouch, reach, stoop, read/see, speak, push, pull, lift, stand, and finger/type. The frequency of each action varies by workflow and office activity.
