Area Safety Manager

About the role

The Area Safety Manager at Helix Traffic Solutions is responsible for leading safety initiatives to ensure a safe working environment and quality of work zone setups. This role involves traveling between Georgia, Tennessee, and Alabama to conduct office and jobsite audits, develop safe drivers, maintain safety policies and procedures, and train programs from multiple geographical areas.

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive training, safety awareness, and solid administrative support
• Maintain training records and documentation
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local safety laws, regulations, codes, and rules
• Implement safety and quality procedures at the local level
• Conduct or arrange training sessions as needed
• Monitor and issue guidance on samsara telematics system data
• Help manage driver compliance (MVR, Samsara, Accident Reporting, Fleetworthy, etc)
• Help facilitate drug screenings (primarily post-accident and reasonable suspicion)
• Oversee USDOT/MUTCD compliance program as well as state specific plans

Qualifications

• High School Diploma, preferably working towards a college degree in safety
• Minimum of 5 years Safety and Training experience
• General understanding of OSHA regulations, USDOT compliance, and Traffic Control
• Solid knowledge base of OSHA safety regulations and standards
• Professional certifications a plus (Safety Certificate Courses)
• Pass drug screen and MVR background to drive company vehicle
• Strong written and verbal communications skills
• Computer skills in Excel and Word
• History of claims reduction and insurance policy administration
• 5 years Traffic Control or Road Construction experience
