Salary

• South of the 26° Parrallel: Trainee Psychiatrist Year 1-7 $175,576 to $235,046 p.a. pro rata
• North of the 26° Parrallel: Registrar Year 3 $200,773 p.a. pro rata, HSMP Year 1-6 $301,700 to $378,680 p.a. pro rata

Employment Information

All salaries are inclusive of base salary, professional development allowance and 12% superannuation. Salary rates are effective as of 3 September 2026.

Recruitment Pool

This Recruitment Pool is for Full time or Part Time Fixed Term appointments for existing RANZCP Trainees seeking to transfer to the RPTWA program. Appointments for up to 5 years (dependent on RANZCP training stage), with the possibility of extension.

Interview Eligibility

Suitable applicants will be offered an interview if they identify as Aboriginal & Torres Strait Island, Māori or from a rural origins background, providing they meet the eligibility criteria in accordance with the RANZCP Registration for Entry into Training, Education and Training Policy and Procedure.

Program Overview

The Rural Psychiatry Training WA (RPTWA) program is overseen by the Western Australia Psychiatry Training Committee, in accordance with the requirements for obtaining Fellowship of the Royal Australian New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP).

Essential and Desirable Criteria

• Essential Criteria:
  • Successful completion of a medical degree
  • Current unrestricted General Registration as a Medical Practitioner with the Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA)
  • Current registration as trainee in the RANZCP Fellowship Program
  • Demonstrated desire to obtain knowledge of/and experience in biological and psychotherapeutic interventions
  • Effective communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills with a multidisciplinary interest
  • Demonstrated analytical ability
  • Highly developed report writing and policy formulation skills
  • Ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team
  • Demonstrated computer skills to enable management of medical and patient records, navigation of online policy access, internal communication and completing online learning resources
  • Eligible for / or in possession of a current C or C-A Class drivers licence
• Desirable Criteria:
  • Understanding of the issues around providing Mental Health services with a rural community, including provision of culturally appropriate services to indigenous families and communities
  • Knowledge of the Western Australian Mental Health Act 2014 and other related legislation
  • Understanding of and experience of working within RANZCP policies and guidelines
  • Relevant training or experience in education
