About the role
This position provides nursing care to patients in the Psychiatry Float Pool, working across multiple units within the psychiatric service line. The role requires flexibility, strong clinical judgment, and the ability to adapt to varying patient populations and unit dynamics.
Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing interventions
- Float between designated psychiatric units to maintain appropriate staffing levels and patient safety
- Administer medications and treatments as prescribed, monitoring for effectiveness and adverse reactions
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including physicians, therapists, and social workers to develop and implement individualized care plans
- Document patient assessments, interventions, and outcomes accurately and in a timely manner
- Educate patients and families regarding diagnoses, treatment plans, medications, and post-discharge care
- Respond to psychiatric emergencies and utilize de-escalation techniques as appropriate
- Maintain a safe therapeutic environment for patients, families, and staff
Requirements
- Current Ohio Registered Nurse (RN) license or compact state licensure
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association
- Minimum of one year of acute care nursing experience
- Experience in psychiatric or behavioral health nursing preferred
- Ability to work rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays as assigned
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
- Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing certification (RN-BC) preferred
- CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) certification or willingness to obtain within 90 days of hire
- Previous float pool or travel nursing experience preferred
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize and manage multiple patient assignments
