About the role

The crane operator will safely operate rough terrain hydraulic cranes to transfer heavy objects from one location to another. An RT crane, or rough terrain crane, is a mobile crane designed to work in challenging conditions like uneven ground or tight spaces.

Responsibilities

  • Operate RT hydraulic cranes.
  • Setup machinery based on complex manuals.
  • Calculate load capacity and determine weight of loads in relation to the manufacturer's load chart specifications.
  • Inspect the crane daily for defects, wear, and maintenance prior to operation; report deficiencies promptly to supervisor.
  • Inspect and assess ground conditions to ensure safe crane setup.
  • Inspect clearances, overhead lines, and other objects to prevent accidents or damages.
  • Hoist, position, and place machinery, equipment, or other large objects at construction sites and industrial facilities.
  • Work within precise limits and standards of accuracy.
  • Coordinate with ground crew and other operators to interpret hand, verbal, and radio signals.
  • Maintain activity logs and records of service.
  • Inspect rigging and remove damaged equipment from service.
  • Wear required PPE at all times.
  • Willingness to travel as work dictates.
  • Perform any and all other duties assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • NCCCO certification or equivalent is required.
  • Minimum of five years of experience operating RT mobile cranes.
  • Rigging expertise.
  • Experience working around plant construction jobsites.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of OSHA Regulations and ANSI Standards in Crane Operations.
  • Proficient in oral and written communication.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Ability to communicate verbally with others on-site, in person, and over the telephone.
  • Ability to read printed materials, signs, and directions.
  • Stamina to maintain attention despite interruptions.
  • Ability to lift, push, pull, carry, handle, or feel objects, supplies, tools, machinery, and/or controls weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to reach with hands and arms; climb stairs and/or ladders; balance, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, lift overhead.
  • Navigate and perform activities on various construction sites safely, including traversing around work areas.
  • Work outside frequently for long periods in all weather conditions, including extreme hot and cold temperatures.
  • Potential exposure to chemicals, vapors, pollutants, viruses or other pathogens, gases, uneven surfaces, loud noises, moving vehicles or machines, and dust/debris.

Schedule

This is a full-time position. Occasional overtime and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
