About the role
The Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) is responsible for performing various respiratory care procedures and examinations for patients with cardiopulmonary disorders. This role also involves assisting physicians during procedures and educating patients and other healthcare professionals.
Responsibilities
- Performs routine respiratory therapy procedures including IPPB, O2 therapy, and humidity/aerosol therapy.
- Establishes and maintains ventilation and airway care for assigned patients and provides ventilatory support to patients undergoing cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
- Performs advanced respiratory care techniques such as invasive pressure monitoring, pulmonary artery catheterization, cardiac output determinations, administration of Nitric Oxide, and other gases.
- Aids in the insertion of catheters as needed and performs arterial blood gas collection through line draws or punctures.
- Assesses and reassesses patients through observation, clinical data gathering, and reports findings accurately, making referrals to appropriate disciplines as necessary.
- Provides educational development through guidance and teaching, serving as a technical resource for patients, families, physicians, students, and other hospital staff regarding respiratory care procedures.
- Recognizes and reacts appropriately to environmental safety factors and performs preventative and routine maintenance on respiratory care equipment and instruments.
- Participates in departmental and hospital continuous improvement opportunities.
Requirements
- Required: Associates Degree in Respiratory Care, or Technical Degree/Diploma in Respiratory Care.
- Prior work experience preferred but not required.
- Required: Registered Respiratory Therapist certification from the Tennessee Board of Respiratory Care and the National Board for Respiratory Care.
- Required: Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association.
- Preferred: Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification from the American Heart Association, Registered Respiratory Therapist certification from the Arkansas State Medical Board, and Neonatal Resuscitation Program certification from the American Heart Association.
