RRT NICU- FT Week Nights

Associate Degree in Respiratory Therapy (2 years) required. 1–2 years of Respiratory Therapy experience preferred.

Licenses & Certifications

  • Georgia Composite Board license – Respiratory Care Professional
  • National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) Registered Respiratory Therapist
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) – required within 12 months for Adult care
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) – required within 12 months for Adult care / within 120 days for NICU care
  • Neonatal Resuscitation (NRP) – required for NICU care

Responsibilities

  • Invasive Respiratory Procedures
    • Perform endotracheal intubation, arterial blood gas (ABG) sampling, and arterial line insertion only after documented competency validation.
    • Follow approved policies for difficult intubation (Difficult Intubation cart, Glidescope).
    • Adhere to proper procedures for arterial line placement, ABG sampling, and endotracheal intubation.
  • Assessment, Treatment & Reevaluation
    • Provide or recommend care based on patient condition and needs.
    • Identify expected outcomes and plan care accordingly.
    • Treat patients and families with compassion, following physician orders.
    • Adapt communication style to patient needs and recognize age-specific responses to treatment.
    • Provide effective interventions while respecting patient confidentiality, privacy, and cultural needs.
    • Modify expected outcomes based on changes in patient assessment.
  • Medication Administration
    • Administer accurate medication and dosage to the correct patient at the correct time.
    • Verify patient orders before retrieving medications from Omnicell.
    • Give and receive accurate handoff communication.
    • Pull medications one shift at a time, label with patient sticker, and store securely until administration.
    • Scan patient armband to confirm identity, drug, dosage, and time.
    • Operate medication devices using correct technique for optimal drug delivery.
  • Electronic Documentation
    • Document all patient services accurately and efficiently in the electronic system.
    • Correct errors following proper time frame and process.
    • Document services rendered as soon as possible after completion.
  • Mechanical Ventilation
    • Complete competency validation and orientation before operating mechanical ventilators.
    • Demonstrate knowledge of ventilator setup, management, weaning, and discontinuation.
    • Troubleshoot ventilator performance effectively using critical thinking skills.
  • Additional Duties
    • Adhere to hospital and departmental attendance and punctuality guidelines.
    • Perform duties in alignment with the organization’s core values, mission, and vision.
    • Complete other duties as required, following departmental policies and procedures.
    • Maintain current knowledge through self-education and attendance at educational programs.
    • Attend staff meetings, complete mandatory in-services, and fulfill competency evaluations on time.
    • Demonstrate competency in providing age-, sex-, weight-, and need-specific care.
    • Wear protective clothing and equipment as appropriate.
