Specific Responsibilities
- Supervises Conductors, Assistant Conductors and Engineers in the performance of their duties and ensures all jobs are done in a safe manner.
- Makes sure safety rules and standards of Railroad Operations are enforced and safe operation is ensured for passengers and employees.
- Maintains station facilities and the Railroad physical plant, reporting any deficiencies or safety-related problems immediately.
- Investigates and responds to passenger and employee injuries, making recommendations to prevent similar incidents.
- Conducts rules compliance testing of Conductors, Assistant Conductors, and Engineers.
- Maintains deportment and appearance of Conductors, Assistant Conductors, and Engineers.
- Maintains overall qualifications on-train personnel and performs periodic field testing.
- Attends meetings and maintains relationships with community groups to promote inclusivity and cooperation.
- Maintains communication with Railroad Operations Control Center regarding specific incidents and overall operating conditions on the Railroad.
- Maintains communication to the public regarding Railroad Operations and Service Planning service changes, improvements, and service disruptions.
- Handles disciplinary procedures in accordance with regulations and labor contracts.
- Reports any safety concerns, compromises or hazards affecting operations, the public, self and/or other employees.
Qualifications And Experience
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum of three (3) years Railroad operating experience, or transportation management (dispatching/controller/Instructor) experience.
- Full qualifications as either a RRD Conductor or an Engineer within the last 3 years.
- Must be able to obtain a SEPTA conductor or engineer certification within 2 years of hire.
- Familiarity with all applicable labor agreements relevant to operations employees.
- Demonstrated experience using computers and electronic devices to perform administrative and operational duties.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Able to work day or night shifts, weekends and/or holidays.
- Valid current driver’s license required.
