Position Overview
LJA is seeking a Right of Way Agent to join its team. The ideal candidate will have experience in public infrastructure projects and proficiency in negotiating projects subject to the Uniform Act.
Responsibilities
- Conduct activities related to the acquisition of property rights for public infrastructure projects
- Handle negotiating and associated documentation for parcels on a daily basis
- Communicate with property owners in a respectful and professional manner
- Provide current parcel updates in contact logs and project status reports
- Use advanced technology, techniques, and practices to resolve challenges throughout the acquisition process and related real estate services disciplines
- Provide status updates and participate in status meetings
- Execute responsibilities with a sense of urgency while maintaining quality and accuracy of deliverables
- Continually adhere to customer service standards, including being courteous, responsive, conscientious, and striving for accuracy
Qualifications
- 4-Year College Degree (or equivalent experience)
- Active Texas Real Estate Sales Agent’s License
- Active Texas Notary (or ability to obtain one within 45 days)
- Exceptional oral and written communication skills, including use of proper grammar, minimal misspellings, and infrequent typographical errors
- Experience in negotiating with property owners to acquire real property rights for public infrastructure projects
- Ability to build and maintain strong internal and external relationships, as well as establish rapport with property owners
- Proficiency in document organization (both electronic and paper)
- Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills
- Demonstration of self-motivation and ethical behavior
- Ability to continuously and proactively collaborate, share, seek guidance, and receive feedback through open dialogue
- Able to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines
- Possess critical thinking and problem-solving attributes
- Knowledge of the Uniform Relocation Assistance and Real Property Acquisitions Policies Act of 1970, as amended
- Proficient with MS Office Suite, especially TEAMS, Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint
- Able to travel overnight, if needed
- Valid Driver’s License (good driving record)
- Able to work with team members in other geographic offices
- Familiarity with acquisition appraisal elements and methodology
- Possess reliable transportation

- R/W-NAC or SR/WA from the International Right of Way Association
- Education related to real estate or appraisal
- Experience working in Texas and on TxDOT, county, or municipal projects

- Able to sit for extended periods of time working on a computer with various software applications
- Mobile to attend project meetings, client meetings, and meetings with team members and support staff
- Actively participate in virtual and in-person meetings
- Use of camera in virtual meetings to foster successful communication
- Work under pressure to meet deadlines
- Capable of quickly evaluating accuracy in real estate acquisition documents
