Minimum Requirements

  • High School Diploma or its equivalent
  • Minimum of two (2) years of farming experience
  • Two (2) years of supervisory experience
  • Experience in the operation of a working farm with animals and crops are preferred
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted

About the Role

Under the supervision of the Assistant Deputy Director of Parks Maintenance and the Parks Superintendent, the incumbent is responsible for the day-to-day operation and administration of Round Hill Park, including the working farm. The Round Hill Farm and Park Manager schedules, supervises, and directs activities necessary to operate a working farm such as equipment maintenance, crop planning, planting, cultivation and harvesting, and animal care. In addition, this position will interact with the public and different groups visiting the Park and farm, as well as necessary suppliers, veterinarians, and necessary regulatory agencies.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for overall planning and management of all activities of a working farm
  • Supervises day-to-day work activities of employees
  • Participates in the daily farm activities on a regular basis
  • Assures proper care of farm animals, including veterinary services as needed
  • Makes recommendations on the livestock at the park
  • Plans and oversees crop production including soil preparation, planting, cultivation, etc.
  • Provides general information to public, media and educational groups
  • Completes daily payroll for all maintenance employees
  • Maintains all necessary farm records, including veterinary records, manure management, and crop rotations
  • Operates facility according to USDA regulations and complies with annual inspections
  • Works with the Allegheny County Conservation District to execute a manure management plan and crop planting strategy
  • Ensures park is in pristine, safe condition for visitors; confirms proper maintenance is completed on all equipment
  • Orders all necessary supplies and materials for the park and farm
  • Places service requests for necessary trades work that needs done in the park
  • Responds to Cityworks service requests received
  • Performs other duties as required or requested

  • Operate farming equipment (tractors, chain saws, vac-all, etc.)
  • Communicate professionally, both orally and in writing
  • Work well as part of a team
  • Collaborate with other agencies, companies, and experts as needed
  • Demonstrate reliability and dependability in the workplace
  • Lift up to 50 lbs

Additional Information

Residency: Allegheny County within 1 year.

Veterans' Preference: Will be awarded to eligible candidates.
