About the role
The H-E-B Store Department Lead role involves leading a well-stocked, well-maintained department, providing superior customer service, and performing supervisory responsibilities.
Responsibilities
- May serve as backup to Department Manager and typically works opposite shift to Manager
- Helps prepare department work schedules
- Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with policies and applicable laws
- Aids in inventory control; loads, unloads, and moves product
- Trains Partners; directs work; addresses complaints; resolves issues; builds / follows up on production plans and their execution
- Aids in all technical areas, as needed
- Performs Representative / Specialist duties frequently
- Provides / coaches on superior customer service
- Takes orders from customers by telephone or in person
- Answers customer questions regarding products; assists them with selections
- Uses suggestive selling techniques and advanced product knowledge and experience to meet customer needs and build department sales
- Merges with merchandising efforts to merchandise products effectively
- Slices, packages, labels, rotates, and culls products for poor quality
- Complies with department / Store operating procedures
- Cleans / sanitizes sales floor, display cases, prep areas, and equipment
- Bakery additional department-specific responsibilities / pre-requisites include:
- Ensures / oversees effective production planning and execution of supporting processes
- Affords assistance in all technical areas as needed (e.g., baking, frying, and decorating)
- Culls bakery products for poor quality, expiration dates
- Writes on cakes with icing per personalized customer requests
- Stores with more than one Bakery Lead
- Serves as dedicated Lead for assigned Partners, processes, and responsibilities in either cake / tortilla production or scratch / baking / wrapping as applicable by Store
- Beauty additional department-specific responsibilities / pre-requisites include:
- Applies advanced knowledge of current trends in beauty for hair care, skin care, and makeup
- Deli additional department-specific responsibilities / pre-requisites include:
- May oversee a specific area of the business: Service Case, Production, Cheese Shop or Catering
- Affords assistance in inventory control, including planning portion of Fresh Production Planner (FPP); follows up on FPP inventory functions; ensures Perpetual Adjustment Walk (PAW) walks are complete
- Affords assistance in ordering and event order management (EOMs)
- Affords assistance in training on new systems, tools, processes, and product roll-outs; follows up with Partners as needed to reinforce or retrain
- Stores with more than one Deli Lead
- Serves as dedicated Lead for assigned Partners, processes, and responsibilities in either back of the house or front of the house Deli operations as applicable by Store
- Prepared Foods additional department-specific responsibilities / pre-requisites include:
- Serves / packages products at customer's request
- Edits customers on preparation / reheating instructions of prepared foods
- Prepackages condiments (sauces, dressings) for prepared food items
- Cuts, slices, dices, chops, food in preparation for chef
- Floral additional department-specific responsibilities / pre-requisites include:
- Constantly reach at waist, grasp
- Frequently stand, walk, occasionally reach overhead, reach at shoulder, reach at knee, reach at floor, bend, stoop, squat, crouch, kneel, stair climb, pivot, twist, push / pull with arms, pinch, perform fine motor movements, occasionally be exposed to cold conditions, occasionally be exposed to wet conditions, occasionally be exposed to loud noise
- Demonstrate the ability to lift 55 lbs, and manage in excess of 45 lbs
- Seafood additional department-specific responsibilities / pre-requisites include:
- Constantly reach at waist
- Frequently stand, walk, occasionally reach overhead, reach at shoulder, reach at knee, reach at floor, bend, stoop, squat, crouch, kneel, stair climb, pivot, twist, pinch, perform fine motor movements, occasionally be exposed to cold conditions, occasionally be exposed to wet and cold, occasionally be exposed to hot conditions, occasionally be exposed to loud noise
- Demonstrate the ability to lift 50 lbs, and manage in excess of 25 lbs
- Showtime additional department-specific responsibilities / pre-requisites include:
- Constantly stand, reach at waist, grasp
- Frequently stand, walk, occasionally walk, reach overhead, reach at shoulder, reach at knee, reach at floor, bend, stoop, squat, crouch, kneel, stair climb, pivot, twist, pinch, perform fine motor movements, occasionally be exposed to loud noise
- Demonstrate the ability to lift 25 lbs, and manage in excess of 45 lbs
- Texas Backyard additional department-specific responsibilities / pre-requisites include:
- Constantly reach at waist, grasp
- Frequently stand, walk, occasionally reach overhead, reach at shoulder, reach at knee, reach at floor, bend, stoop, squat, crouch, kneel, climb stairs, climb ladder, pivot, twist, pinch, perform fine motor movements, occasionally be exposed to wet conditions and loud noise
- Demonstrate the ability to lift 65 lbs, and manage in excess of 65 lbs
