About the Role

As an H-E-B Store Department Lead, you'll lead a well-stocked, well-maintained department while providing superior customer service. You'll also perform supervisory responsibilities, such as scheduling work, and training/developing Partners.

Responsibilities

• Store Lead Operations / Training:
  • May serve as backup to Department Manager and typically works opposite shift to Manager
  • May help prepare department work schedules
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with policies and applicable laws
  • Assists with inventory control; loads, unloads, and moves product
  • Trains Partners; directs work; addresses complaints; resolves issues; builds / follows up on production plans and their execution
  • Assists in all technical areas, as needed
  • Performs Representative / Specialist duties frequently
• Customer Service / Sales:
  • Provides / coaches on superior customer service
  • Takes orders from customers by telephone or in person
  • Answers customer questions regarding products; assists them with selections
  • Uses suggestive selling techniques and advanced product knowledge and experience to meet customer needs and build department sales
  • Merchandises products effectively
• Food Safety:
  • Slices, packages, labels, rotates, and culls products for poor quality
  • Complies with department / Store operating procedures
  • Cleans / sanitizes sales floor, display cases, prep areas, and equipment
• Additional Department-Specific Responsibilities:
  • BAKERY: Ensures / oversees effective production planning and execution of supporting processes; assists in all technical areas as needed (e.g., baking, frying, and decorating); culls bakery products for poor quality, expiration dates; writes on cakes with icing per personalized customer requests; serves as dedicated Lead for assigned Partners in stores with more than one Bakery Lead.
  • BEAUTY: Applies advanced knowledge of current trends in beauty for hair care, skin care, and makeup.
  • DELI: May oversee specific areas (Service Case, Production, Cheese Shop, or Catering); assists with inventory control and ordering; trains on new systems and processes; serves as dedicated Lead in stores with more than one Deli Lead.
  • PREPARED FOODS: Serves / packages products at customer's request; educates customers on preparation / reheating instructions; prepackages condiments; cuts, slices, dices, chops food in preparation for chef.
  • PRODUCE: Performs lead responsibilities; serves as dedicated lead over in-store production; spends majority of time with processing team.
  • TEXAS BACKYARD: Strong knowledge of nursery field and plant/chemical recommendations; completes Texas Nursery & Landscape Association training; keeps up with current trends.

Qualifications

• Age Requirement: 18+
• Work Experience: Relevant experience in retail or related fields.
• Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
  • Expert knowledge of department production stations
  • Ability to read and interpret documents
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
• Education: Associate's degree or equivalent, or 6+ months of related experience.
• Licenses/Certifications: Completion of Company Orientation, food safety training, and eCommerce training.
