About the role

Join Robotics Delivery & Packaging Innovations (RDPI) Technology Deployment team within Amazon Robotics (AR). RDPI deploys leading-edge industrial robotics and customer fulfillment technologies across North America. This field-based role involves planning, executing, and launching industrial automation technologies, with extensive travel across North America (upwards of 75% or more). Project durations vary from a few days to several months.

As a Systems Engineer in RDPI, you will oversee large-scale project planning, installation, and launch of industrial automation technologies across Amazon’s growing fulfillment network. This role demands strong technical skills for deploying robotic equipment, including mechanical and electrical systems, network configurations, and software coordination. You will lead on-site project management, collaborating with cross-functional teams and stakeholders to ensure successful deployments.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical oversight on the installation of third-party and Amazon-designed robotics equipment, collaborating with a team of 1-5 engineers and an on-site project manager.
  • Support and guide the installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting of robotic, packaging, and sortation technologies at Amazon fulfillment centers, both on-site and remotely.
  • Manage technical ambiguity around the integration of work cells in fulfillment centers.
  • Collaborate with hardware engineering, technical program managers, product managers, and internal customers (e.g., site maintenance and operations teams).
  • Travel to project sites (live warehouses and new construction) across North America to align stakeholders on program status, with travel upwards of 75% or more.
  • Manage day-to-day project scheduling and budget, including continuous improvement activities to enhance project scopes.
  • Lead teams of engineers on projects, addressing real-time problems during deployments.
  • Develop deep knowledge of robotic systems to guide installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial Engineering, or a related STEM field.
  • 1+ years of experience with technical drawings and/or reading CAD models (mechanical and electrical).
  • 1+ years of experience working on mechanical, electrical, IT networked, or software systems.
  • Experience working in or around construction, manufacturing, warehouse, or similar environments.
  • Ability to handle multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and independent initiative to identify and resolve issues in real time.
  • Interest in working primarily in a construction or warehouse environment in a field-based role.
  • Ability to travel domestically 75% or more of the year.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 1+ years of engineering, construction, manufacturing, or warehouse environment experience.
  • Knowledge of networking protocols such as HTTP, DNS, and TCP/IP.
  • Proven experience working on hardware integration or complex mechanical-electrical/networked industrial equipment.
  • Knowledge of specific robotic equipment (e.g., Fanuc, ABB) and Allen Bradley PLC experience.
  • Certified in OSHA, ANSI, or other automation safety certifications.
  • Familiarity with LEAN or Six Sigma; certifications are a plus.

Benefits

  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage.
  • Maternity and parental leave options.
  • Paid Time Off (PTO).
  • 401(k) plan with company matching.
  • Sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs).
  • Comprehensive benefits including health insurance, flexible spending accounts, adoption and surrogacy reimbursement, and mental health support.

Pay

Base salary ranges by location:

  • North Reading, MA: $82,400 - $144,100 USD annually.
  • Nashville, TN: $78,200 - $136,900 USD annually.
  • Austin, TX: $82,400 - $144,100 USD annually.
  • Seattle, WA: $82,400 - $144,100 USD annually.
