Position Summary

This mid-level role supports FDOT roadway design and production efforts, including alignment, modeling, and plan development. The Project Engineer will also serve as a Deputy Project Manager, supporting scheduling, task management, QC coordination, and client communication.

Essential Job Functions

  • Lead development of roadway design components such as geometry, roadway modeling, cross sections, and plans production for FDOT projects.
  • Serve as Deputy Project Manager, supporting scheduling, task management, QC coordination, and client communication.
  • Provide technical direction and mentorship to junior engineers and CAD staff.
  • Ensure deliverables comply with FDOT Design Manuals, CADD Manual, PPM, and district-specific standards.
  • Prepare construction plans, specifications, quantities, and engineering reports.
  • Cook with drainage, traffic engineering, structures, and environmental disciplines.
  • Aid with proposal preparation, scope development, and level-of-effort estimates.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering.
  • 4–6 years of progressive roadway design experience.
  • Engineering Intern (EI) certification required.
  • Proficiency with FDOT plans production, MicroStation, and OpenRoads Designer.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in Florida.
  • Experience supporting or managing FDOT Design-Bid-Build projects.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to perform occasional fieldwork, including walking on uneven surfaces.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds occasionally.
  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods while performing design-related tasks.

Work Environment / Environmental Factors

  • Primarily office-based work with occasional site visits.
  • Exposure to weather conditions during field activities.
  • Moderate noise levels typical of office and field settings.

Additional Information

  • Full-time, on-site role based in Miami, FL.
  • Standard business hours with flexibility based on project needs.
  • Occasional travel for project coordination or site visits.
