Job Duties
- Creates and reviews project design calculations, quantities takeoffs, specifications, plans and contract documents.
- Works within the Transportation Team assigning responsibilities.
- Plan, schedule, conduct or coordinate detailed phases of engineering work.
- Attends project meetings and presents specific aspects of engineering assignments.
- Conducts analysis choosing appropriate applications.
- Works within project schedules and budgets.
- Provides leadership, coaching, and or mentoring to junior engineers in the development of plans, reports, and specifications.
- Completes training on assigned tasks.
- Applies INDOT design manual and AAHTO principles to highway design.
- Utilizes roadway design CADD software.
- Knowledge of Road design software such as Open Roads.
- Participates in occasional site visits in construction sites and remote outdoor work environments.
- Occasional travel to client meetings and site visits.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering.
- Professional Engineer’s license in Indiana or the ability to obtain through reciprocity within 6 months.
- Strong team collaboration, oral and written communication, design expertise, and problem-solving skills are required.
- Experience with INDOT standards, specifications, and deliverables for Federally Funded Projects.
- Proficiency in CADD General Characteristics.
Technical Responsibilities
- Serves as the technical advisor for the organization in the application of advanced concepts and methods in an assigned area.
- Keeps informed of new developments and requirements affecting the organization for the purpose of recommending changes in programs or applications.
- Develops new techniques and/or improved processes, materials, or products.
- Values and analyzes sustainable performance of complex engineering projects from a systems perspective.
Project and Task Management
- Oversees a project team of engineers and technicians.
- Plans, schedules, and coordinates the preparation of documents or activities for multiple major projects or is responsible for an entire program of an organization.
- Analyzes project management plans for complex engineering projects.
- Understands project delivery uncertainties and uses risk management principles to address them.
- Reviews operational procedures to ensure compliance with applicable policies and performance measures.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Manages, supervises, and guides a team of engineers and technicians.
- Provides continued mentored experience to senior staff.
- Integrates professional attitudes relevant to the practice of engineering and fosters creativity, curiosity, flexibility, and dependability in staff.
