Position Summary
Responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of roadway and highway lighting systems. This includes working with high-voltage systems, streetlights, traffic poles, conduit systems, and related electrical components. The technician ensures safe and efficient operation in accordance with local, state, and federal codes and standards.
Responsibilities
- Install, maintain, and repair roadway and highway lighting systems, including streetlights, overhead lights, and control systems.
- Perform electrical terminations, connections, and wiring for lighting fixtures, poles, and control boxes.
- Troubleshoot lighting systems and perform diagnostics to identify faults or outages.
- Read and interpret blueprints, electrical schematics, and construction plans.
- Operate equipment such as bucket trucks, augers, trenchers, and hand tools safely and efficiently.
- Perform underground conduit installation and pole base setting.
- Replace bulbs, ballasts, fuses, contactors, and photocells as needed.
- Ensure work is compliant with NEC (National Electrical Code), DOT regulations, and company standards.
- Maintain accurate work records, service logs, and inspection reports.
- Conduct night inspections to identify non-functioning lights and perform repairs.
- Follow all safety procedures and participate in regular safety meetings and training.
- Communicate effectively with foremen, project managers, and other team members.
- Have basic knowledge and skills to setup appropriate traffic control for safe work zones.
Requirements
- Must pass criminal background check and pre-employment drug screening.
- Must have a positive and cooperative attitude and excellent attendance.
- Must be able to get along with fellow workers, other tradesmen on the jobsite, inspectors, customers, and the public.
- Must be able to carry up to 50 pounds.
- Must properly use safety equipment and personal protective equipment.
- Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of all types of hand tools.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
- Work is primarily performed in outdoor environments in all/extreme weather conditions.
- This position requires physical activity including extended periods of standing and walking, frequent sitting, kneeling, bending, crouching, reaching, stooping and climbing.
- Requires the ability to frequently lift and/or carry materials and/or supplies and other materials weighing up to 50 lbs. Occasional lifting and/or carrying of materials and/or supplies weighing up to 100 lbs.
