Roadway Design Engineer - Project Manager

About the role
We are seeking an experienced Roadway Design Engineer – Project Manager to support and grow our Transportation Practice in our Dayton, OH office. This role offers the opportunity to help shape transportation infrastructure through meaningful roadway design work that supports safer, more connected communities. As part of LJB’s collaborative team, you’ll contribute to impactful projects, grow your technical expertise, and mentor the next generation of engineers.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for scope, fees, and the profitability of individual projects as well as a portfolio of projects.
- Primary point of contact with clients while functioning as project manager.
- Assists in new sales with clients for whom they are managing projects.
- Guides and coordinates all internal LJB transportation disciplines, sub-consultants, and clients.
- Maintains a basic understanding of other transportation disciplines and their project requirements.
- Manages the nine knowledge areas defined by the Project Management Institute (PMI) for each project phase:
- Project Integration Management
- Project Scope Management
- Project Time Management
- Project Cost Management
- Project Quality Management
- Project Human Resource Management
- Project Communications Management
- Project Risk Management
- Project Procurement Management
- Assists the Deputy Operations Manager in maintaining project management best practices.
- On larger projects, may or may not be directly involved in design.
- Apprises Deputy Operations Manager of employee performance on projects.
- Provides information on future projects to aid in staffing decisions.
- Assists in the informal development of other employees.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering.
- P.E. license required; Ohio PE is preferred. Successful candidates will be expected to obtain their OH PE within the first year of hire.
- At least 10 years of experience in consulting or engineering.
- Experience working on DOT design projects is required; experience with multiple DOTs is a plus.
Preferred Qualifications
- 5 years of project management experience.
- Experience with Deltek Vantagepoint or similar CRM and Project Management software.
- Experience with MicroStation, OpenRoads, AutoCAD, and Civil-3D software.

Pay
Annual compensation: $95,000 – $185,000 based on experience, certifications, and regional market standards.
