Roadway Design Engineer - Project Manager
About the role
Join LJB Inc., a growing national engineering firm specializing in civil and structural engineering, with additional expertise in geospatial, safety, and environmental services. Within our Transportation Practice, you’ll contribute to designing infrastructure that connects people, supports communities, and improves quality of life. We are seeking an experienced Roadway Design Engineer – Project Manager to support and grow our Transportation Practice in our Cleveland, OH office.
Responsibilities
- Oversee scope, fees, and profitability of individual projects as well as a portfolio of projects.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for clients while functioning as project manager.
- Assist in new sales with clients for whom you are managing projects.
- Guide and coordinate all internal LJB transportation disciplines, sub-consultants, and clients.
- Maintain a basic understanding of other transportation disciplines and their project requirements.
- Manage the nine knowledge areas defined by the Project Management Institute (PMI) for each project phase:
- Project Integration Management
- Project Scope Management
- Project Time Management
- Project Cost Management
- Project Quality Management
- Project Human Resource Management
- Project Communications Management
- Project Risk Management
- Project Procurement Management
- Assist the Deputy Operations Manager in maintaining project management best practices.
- On larger projects, may or may not be directly involved in design.
- Apprise Deputy Operations Manager of employee performance on projects.
- Provide information on future projects to aid in staffing decisions.
- Assist in the informal development of other employees.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering.
- P.E. license required; Ohio PE is preferred. Successful candidates will be expected to obtain their OH PE within the first year of hire.
- At least 10 years of experience in consulting or engineering.
- Experience working on DOT design projects is required; experience with multiple DOTs is a plus.
Preferred Qualifications
- 5 years of project management experience.
- Experience with Deltek Vantagepoint or similar CRM and Project Management software.
- Experience with MicroStation, OpenRoads, AutoCAD, and Civil-3D software.

Pay
Annual compensation: $95,000 – $185,000 based on experience, certifications, and regional market standards.
