Roadside Safety Service Specialist - Plano

About the role

The Roadside Safety Services program assists in the rapid removal of debris, disabled vehicles, and those involved in accidents from the freeway. Specialists provide aid to motorists by offering gas or water, changing tires, performing minor vehicle repairs and recoveries, or relocating vehicles. They also assist at accident scenes by providing emergency first aid, traffic control, removing damaged vehicles, and clearing accident-related debris. Additional duties include setting up and maintaining emergency detour routes, reporting property damage, providing directions, locating and reporting abandoned vehicles, and removing roadway debris. Specialists patrol NTTA roadways, respond to calls from the Safety Operations Center, monitor equipment, maintain records, and complete related tasks. This is a designated Essential Employee position, requiring attendance during emergencies or inclement weather.

Responsibilities

• Remove disabled vehicles and those involved in accidents from the tollway.
• Assist stranded motorists by providing gas, water, changing tires, performing minor repairs, or pushing vehicles off the roadway.
• Provide emergency first aid, traffic control, and assist in removing damaged vehicles or debris at accident scenes.
• Set up, maintain, and remove emergency detour routes due to incidents.
• Report property damage to and around the tollway system.
• Provide directions to stranded motorists, report and affix removal stickers to abandoned vehicles, and remove debris from the roadway.
• Work with major accident victims, fatal accidents, and high-speed traffic.
• Deliver exceptional customer service.
• Maintain records by entering information into databases, submitting reports, and filing documents.
• Complete routine office duties, including maintaining logs, contacting other departments, typing, filing, and answering inquiries.
• Ensure vehicles and equipment are operational before and during shifts.
• Maintain assigned equipment, supplies, uniforms, and personal safety gear.
• Operate heavy-duty trucks and safety equipment while following established practices and procedures.
• Cope with job-related stress, including deadlines, customer interactions, multitasking, and high work volumes.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 0–3 years of experience.
• Valid Texas Driver’s License (Class C) upon hire and maintained throughout employment.
• Pass pre-employment drug and background screens.
• Obtain and maintain Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) certification and comply with all CJIS security standards.
• Ability to work shifts that may include nights, weekends, holidays, and inclement weather or emergencies.
• Ability to lift up to 100 pounds assisted or unassisted.
• Ability to work in extreme environmental conditions (heat, cold, precipitation, dust, smoke, noise, unpleasant odors, chemical and physical hazards, and exposure to moving traffic).
• Ability to perform duties requiring prolonged sitting, standing, walking, crawling, crouching, bending, kneeling, twisting, climbing, balancing, pushing, pulling, and lifting heavy objects.
• Exposure to roadway disasters, fatal accidents, distraught victims, hazardous material spills, vehicle fires, electrical hazards, and high-speed traffic.
• Ability to communicate clearly in emergency and non-emergency situations.
• Vision and hearing (corrected or uncorrected) essential for safe and efficient performance of duties, including driving, assessing incidents, and using electronic devices.

Pay

Starting pay: $22/hour. Retention bonus: $2,000.
