About the Role
Coordinates and completes the maintenance and servicing of Roads & Grounds equipment and machinery. Assesses needs and develops equipment specifications for purchasing of maintenance machinery and various fleet-related equipment.
Responsibilities
- Troubleshoots, diagnoses, and determines repair and maintenance needs for gas/diesel, electronic, and hydraulic systems and equipment including hand and riding mowers, chain saws, sprayers, trimmers, snowplows, tractors, trucks, lifts, pumps, equipment implements, and other associated equipment.
- Assists in establishing preventive maintenance programs and performs preventive maintenance with crews.
- Performs repairs using a variety of hand tools, power tools, and test devices (e.g., torque wrenches, volt-ohm meters, amperage meters).
- Repairs and/or fabricates parts for special tools as needed.
- Evaluates needs, locates, and orders parts for inventory.
- Responds to field repair requests and performs necessary on-site repairs.
- Maintains shop tools and equipment, including stationary and portable power tools.
- Operates vehicles and equipment for test purposes and as backup to other operators in extenuating circumstances.
- Makes modifications to trucks, such as installing lift gates, storage racks, diesel tanks, hitches, spray tanks, safety lights, and other specialized adjustments.
- Performs snow removal duties using a variety of equipment; available for inclement weather and may be deemed essential personnel.
- Maintains equipment files, documents work performed, and tracks parts needed.
- Makes recommendations for equipment/materials purchases and coordinates the purchasing process with the Assistant Director of Roads & Grounds.
- Assists with the Departmental Asset Management Program for fleet and equipment.
- Checks new equipment/materials against ordering specifications and performs thorough inspections and tests.
- Utilizes Emory Express and Emory Corporate Purchasing card procurement systems and maintains appropriate records.
- Performs related duties as required by management to meet the needs of the Roads and Grounds Department.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Five years of experience in commercial grounds maintenance equipment and fleet maintenance, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Valid Georgia driver’s license and an insurable driving record.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and to bend, stoop, or twist.
Position tasks are required to be performed in-person at an Emory University location; working remote is not an option.
