Responsibilities
- Perform emergency roadside repairs and assigned preventive maintenance services.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues on heavy-duty vehicles and equipment.
- Operate a medium-sized service truck equipped with tools, parts, and diagnostic equipment.
- Respond to service calls promptly and provide effective, timely resolutions to breakdowns in the field.
- Perform safety inspections and ensure all repairs meet regulatory standards.
- Utilize vehicle computer diagnostic systems to interpret failure modes and initiate repairs.
- Prepare accurate estimates for time, materials, and labor costs for repairs.
- Maintain cleanliness, organization, and safety standards within the service truck and while on job sites.
- Document completed repairs, parts used, and service times using fleet maintenance software.
- Assist in shop-based repairs or projects as needed.
Qualifications/Knowledge/Critical Skills
- Experience: Three (3) years of relevant work experience in diesel mechanics or field service.
- License: Valid Class-A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) REQUIRED
- Legally eligible to work in the United States.
- High school diploma or equivalent. Certification or diploma in automotive or diesel technology is preferred.
- Proven experience in diagnosing and repairing heavy-duty diesel vehicles and equipment.
- Strong understanding of safety protocols, compliance standards, and roadside repair procedures.
- Proficiency in using diagnostic tools and equipment for troubleshooting.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Able to work independently in remote and challenging environments.
- Strong time management and organizational skills.
- A practical, solution-oriented mindset with the ability to perform permanent repairs when possible, or implement effective temporary fixes to safely transport vehicles to a maintenance facility—ultimately aiming to avoid unnecessary tow expenses.
Physical Demands/Environmental Factors
- Ability to perform physical requirements of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.
- Successfully complete a pre-employment drug screen, physical, and background check, including employment history and motor vehicle record review.
- Required to exert physical effort in handling tools, parts, and equipment during repairs.
- Ability to lift 50-75 pounds, push, pull, and bend frequently during work.
- Exposure to outdoor elements such as dirt, odors, noise, and varying weather conditions.
- Requires motor coordination with finger dexterity for using tools, diagnostic equipment, and keyboarding.
Compensation
The Road Service Technician position offers an appealing compensation package, with a competitive hourly range of $25.00 to $40.00 per hour (DOE).
