- Road Breakdown Agents assist company drivers in repairs, breakdowns, and repair instructions either by routing them to terminals or providing direction for on the road repairs.
Shifts
- 7am-5pm – four 10-hour days with a Saturday or Sunday
- 1pm - 11pm – four 10-hour days with a Saturday or Sunday
- 9pm - 7am – four 10-hour days with a Saturday or Sunday
Job Functions
- Answer telephone breakdown calls reported by company drivers or customers and input related information into the computer system
- Review and authorize all purchases, repairs, and purchase receipts by drivers, tracking of warranty repairs, truck recalls, notifying the Operations department of trucks due for service
- Communicate with repair facilities or repair shops to monitor repair progress, and to close billing charges and purchase order jobs
- Review and approve computer transmitted reports by drivers via satellite communication for on the road repairs
- Receive and send fax requests to shops pertaining to billing or repair instructions
- Cook up with the Operations department routing to get loads to repair shops or to terminals for repairs or downtime
- Communicate with outside terminals through the computer system to notify of repairs needed or check repairs done to designated trucks
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
- Knowledge of D.O.T. regulations
- Ability to communicate with drivers, customers, and repair facilities in a professional and courteous manner
- Strong knowledge of both tractor and trailer mechanical training
- Skill in operating a computer terminal
- Strong decision making skills
- Knowledge of U.S. geography
- Skill in typing (35-45 wpm)
- Knowledge of various repair vendors, their capabilities, and locations throughout the U.S. usually gained through practical experience and on-the-job training
Education And Experience
- High school graduate or equivalent experience
- Two to three years transportation industry experience preferred
- One to two years AS400 and/or computer experience preferred
- One to two years mechanical training experience preferred
