RN Wound Care

Job Responsibilities

• Assess and monitor wounds.
• Clean and bandage as required.
• Implement the wound/ostomy/continence treatment plan of care.
• Explain procedures, medications, and treatment to be administered to patient and authorized friend or family member.
• Adjust teaching format to ensure patient and home support learning and understanding.
• Auxiliary medical providers with treatments and procedures as necessary.
• Maintain monitoring of patient for adverse patient response to wound/ostomy/continence treatments.
• Administer medications as applicable, knowing their actions and side effects.
• Recognize and report any allergic reactions and the patient’s response to drugs.
• Accurately and timely document patient findings, patient condition, visit details, plan of care, discharge plan and other pertinent input.
• Communicate with physician assessment findings, patient conditions, critical laboratory results, and other pertinent findings.
• Delegate tasks to other team members, as needed, to meet patient care needs in an efficient and effective manner.
• Contribute to discharge planning to provide information for timely discharge and appropriate continuity of care post hospitalization for the wound/ostomy patient.

Education Requirement

• Minimum: Associate of Science from an accredited school of Nursing
• PREFERRED: Bachelor of Science from and accredited school of nursing

Experience Requirements

• Minimum: One (1) year as a registered nurse

Licenses & Certification Requirements

• Registered Nurse
• BLS- Basic Life Support
