About the role
The RN Charge Nurse is responsible for overseeing the nursing service on their shift, ensuring a cheerful home-like atmosphere, and managing emergency situations.
Responsibilities
- Arrive early to receive reports and make assignments for nurse aides and medication aides.
- Count narcotics and document results, notifying management of any discrepancies.
- Perform hi/low on accucheck machines and notify the physician of significant readings.
- Make rounds with the physician, call the physician for significant changes in condition, and assist with treatments.
- Document significant changes in resident condition, new orders, and completed treatments in the resident's chart.
- Notify the physician, family, facility Administrator, and funeral home upon a resident's death.
- Coordinate personnel and residents for efficient conditions and consult with management if problems arise.
- Inspect the facility daily and document any maintenance issues.
- Supervise in the dining room and record food consumption.
- Direct nursing staff during a fire.
Requirements
- Graduate of a state-approved RN program and hold a current RN license for Kansas.
- Experience as a Charge Nurse preferred.
- Knowledge of basic nursing procedures and ability to supervise and teach.
- Ability to assess resident condition and recognize medical and psychiatric emergencies.
- Good character, trustworthiness, and reliability.
- Acceptable KBI record check.
Qualifications
- Education: Graduate of a state-approved RN program.
- License: Current RN license for Kansas.
- Experience: Experience as a Charge Nurse preferred.

- Communication: Ability to communicate with co-workers, supervisors, residents, and physicians.
- Supervision: Ability to supervise and teach.
- Assistance: Ability to assist and promote positive attitudes among co-workers.
- Assessment: Ability to assess resident condition and recognize emergencies.
- Documentation: Ability to document significant changes and treatments in the resident's chart.
- Facility Policies: Knowledge of facility policies and protocols.
