About the role

The Registered Nurse Unit Manager (RN) performs professional supervision, guidance, and direction to staff in both clinical and personnel issues on the Long-Term Care Unit. This role is responsible for the development and maintenance of nursing practice and standards consistent with the overall philosophy of the facility, representing the Nursing Department to other departments and coordinating services provided by other departments.

Schedule

Monday - Friday; primarily day shift with flexible hours. Alternate hours or occasional weekend availability may be required.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate resident care in accordance with State DOH regulations.
• Provide support to residents and families in dealing with clinical issues and challenges.
• Ensure staff adheres to safety and infection control guidelines.
• Assist in establishing daily operations of resident care on the unit, including showers/baths, toileting, meals, medication administration, and activities.
• Communicate pertinent resident information to the Interdisciplinary Team to ensure resident and family needs are met.
• Perform daily rounds of all residents on the unit.
• Perform assessments on residents as required by the facility (e.g., Admission, Elopement, Pain).
• Develop and document a plan of care for each resident, communicating it via Resident Information Sheets.
• Document clinical observations and assessments on all assigned residents per regulations, reporting findings to the designated Nursing Supervisor.
• Prepare resident assignments for Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs), considering the needs of the patient and competency of personnel.
• Organize, oversee, and supervise assigned unit activities and staff assignments.
• Provide Nursing Assistant assignments for each CNA and monitor the flow of activity and delivery of care (e.g., turning and positioning, mealtimes, bathing).
• Ensure CNA documentation records (ADLs, BM, meal intake, etc.) are completed.
• Communicate pertinent resident findings to the Interdisciplinary Team.
• Assist other staff members in completing their duties and orient new Nursing personnel as assigned.
• Perform other related duties as required.

Requirements

• Graduate of an approved school of nursing.
• Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or three (3) years’ experience in long-term care.
• Current licensure in NYS as a Registered Professional Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN).
• Minimum three (3) years’ experience in a supervisory capacity in a hospital, long-term care facility, or other related medical facility.
• Training in rehabilitative and restorative nursing practice.
• Sincere desire to work with the elderly, chronically ill, and disabled.
• Thorough knowledge of medical, social, and psychological needs of residents.
• Good judgment in emergency situations.
• Spirit of cooperation and enthusiasm to create an atmosphere conducive to rehabilitation and growth.
• Strong verbal communication skills with residents, families, and staff.
• Ability to handle emergencies with calm and intelligent response.
• Computer literacy.
